ferred thc petition of tho Charleston Steam Fire
Company of Asmen, report, that hom the Treas?
urer's books, it appears ?aid Company obtained ?
loan from the City Council tn December, 18G1 upon
tho usual terms, ol r2,5t'0, ot which $8li0 was paid
previous to the 1st February, 1865. As this loan
was made in Cnfederato currency, which at that
time was very much depreciated, the Committee
recommend that it bo arranged by reducing the
amount to the gold basis on 1st February, 1805,
and adding tneroto the valuo of gold in tho present
National currency.
Upon this calculation, the Committee find that
(15.92 in currency is a fair equivalent tor tho bal?
ance duo, and rccommeud that upon payment of j

or otherwise, shall be deposited on the east Bide
of Hog Island, between Castle Pinckney mid

eighty feet, and [crowned with an embattled parapet.
