It is said that the Ital: an residents of Now York
mean to introduce on our race courses tho Roman
and Florentine method of racing. In Italy, it
seems that running horses without riders is quite
the fashion. The feat is achieved thus : The
course being fenced in on both sides, thongs of
leather, armed with spurs, are attached to the
girths, which spurs goad the horses as they run
and urge them to their utmost speed. As soon as
sufficient funds have been raised to defray the ex?
penses of the experiment, the thing is to be tried.
FINE PBOSPXOT OP COTTON.-We learn from a
friend who is competent to judge in the matter
and who has seen for himself the substantial facts
of the case, that Dr. J. L. Woodsides, who bves
in the lower part of this District, has a stalk of
cotton containing 326 bolls and blooms, and at least
100 other stalks containing about 200 bolls each.
The Dr. has also cue eighth of an acre of his cotton
tract that will make 500 lbs.- equal to 4,000 lbs. per
acre! This is really an extraordinary prospect,
particularly in the upper country, and but tor tho
acknowledged veracity of our informant, we should
hesitate to publish the facts.
