COTTON.-The market for the week opened on Bator
day last on the basis of 23?@24c. for Low Middling,
and 24??25?c. ft lb for Middling Upland; but in con?
sequence cf the want of strength, both at Liverpool and
New York, the advantage baa been rather in ?vor of the
buyer, but holders have sold lightly, and show much in?
disposition to yield in prices; the rates have been In con
J s?quence, part of the period, irregular and unsettled, and
* exact prices diffleuJ* to quote ; but closed yesterday
steady and firm at 33023?c for Low Miauling, and
24?24?c for Middling Uplands. Prices at Liverpool
have been without important change, opening at 10>id.

receipts of the nero crop up to this time, have been very

On Saturday, August 31. there was but a light inquiry,
and the sales were generally at easier prices, but the
business ' transacted was not sufficiently extended
(amounting to only 24 bales) to cause a change in quota?
tions, and previous figures were renewed, say for Low

On Monday, September 2, there was a good demand
from one buyer, but prices were so irregular that reliable
quotations could not be given. ?alat 251 bales.
On Tuesday the stock an the market was light, trans?
actions being restricted both from want of a supply and

by buyers. Balsa 31 bales. Quotations nominal,

supply of this quality cf the staple, and up to this time
no receipts of new crop have taken place. Planters are
busily engaged in picking and sering what they can from
the ravages of the caterpillar, The next two weeks will j
be looked to with anxiety, it being feared that another j
brood of the above destructive Insect will be
! forth to devour what may remain of the sea island crop.
! There havo boen no transactions to rep ort during the week
I and quotations are consequently seminal. The first
I bale of new Sea Uland Cotton waa received yesterday j
afternoon, from Christ Church Parish. It had not been
j sold up to the dose cf business.
RICE.-The ?balice of stock has prevented t
binns, and the market continues nominal. We learn that
tho first arrivals of the new crop maybe expected In
about two weeks.
NATAL STORES.-Thsj receipts have been 700 bbla
Rosin and Spirits Turpentine, and 300 bbla Crude Tur?
pentine. We note sales of Pale Rosin at $4.6005.50 ft
bbl.; No 1, $3.5004; Na 2? Ki No. 3, $2.75. The
! Spirits sold In extra packages at Mc fl gaBon. The
Crude Turpentine was disposed of at $3 fl.bbL Inc Vir?

HAY.-There have been no 'xrivals since our last
weekly report, and the transactions have been limited to
the retail trade In the absonce cf sales we have no quo
! tatiana to ofter, the demand being quite limited,
CORN.-Tho tecatpts have been limited io about 4000
j buihela from Norfolk (Va). There ie no wholesale de
! mand, and the only ba sin oas doing ia in a light jobbing
and retail way. The limited inquir- is being met by
dealers at about $1.3501.38 ft bushel, for prime Mary?
land white, by ?eight, nags included, and $1.2501.28 fl
I bushel, far mixed and whits Western, weight, bags in?
