The Galveston News speaks thus of a new Texas
enterprise : "The Concordia Manufacturing Com?
pany, of Hempsted, Austin county, has proved to
be no paper company goi up for speculation or
humbug, hut its members have gone regularly
forward to carry out in letter and spirit the objects
contemplated in the charter, and are already ad?
vanced on the road to practical usefulness and
prosperity, investing their money freely and in?
telligently in the enterprise they have in success?
ful operation at this time. Twelve looms, pro?
ducing daily three hundred and seventy-five yards
of superior cloth, and employing at remunerative
wages thirty or forty operatives. They are also at
this timo scattering over Texas a daily supply of
one hundred and fifty pounds of spun cotton, and
having purchased a contagious block of lots, aro
erecting comfortable cottages, offering practically
to the distressed widows and orphans of our land
comfortable houses and useful employment, in
place of suffering, want, and demoralizing idle
