COTTON.-The flat condition of the Liverpool market
which has quoted Middling Uplands at 10yd. during the
week has not prevented the stiffening of prices hore,
which, under an improving market at New York, has ad?
vanced from a half to one eent fs m. since our last re?
port, Low Mid diing? having opened at 35c. and Middling
Uplands at 26c.: ?? ft., and closed at 2??25*?c. for tho
former and 36#@37c t? lb. for the latter, the rates be?
log m many eases quit? irregular, buyers frequently
paying for a good lot of the staple prices above our quo?
tations. This rally of prices here, in the face of a weak
market at Liverpool, is owing to the very light stock of
the article m thia country, the amount on hand, particu?
larly of good qualities, being hardly suffloient to carry
the American manufacture : over to the new crop. Tho
following is a report of the transactions in the staple
here for the week Just closed:
On Friday, August 2, the market waa irregular, prices
being difficult to quote; but the rates in some cases were
decidedly firmer. Salee 43 bales; Good Ordinary being
quoted at 34c, Low Middling at 23c, and Middling Up?
land at 26o. per- ft. .
On Saturday the market was nearly bare of purcha?
sers, and but little cotton to be had, the business was
almost nominal; rales 9 balee on the basis of previous
prices.
. On Monday, the market wa? firmer but irregular ; sales
143 bales. Low Middling being quoted at 25a25>i, and
Middling Uplands at 36a27c pe. ft.
On Tuesday, with an almost nominal stock, prices con?
tinued stiff; sales 80 bales, Low Middling being quoted
at 2&A25K. Middling at 36Xa27c, and Strict Middling at
38c. per ft. ?j
On Wednesday, the market was quiet; sales 38 bales,
at the quotations of the day before.
Yesterday the demand was Light, and some transac?
tions were at'easier rates. Sales 40 bales: say 5 at 21, 6
at 26, 4 at 25#. 1 at 27, 22 at 37tf. We quote Low Mid?
dling, 25a25,*?; Middling. 36X?27.

stock prevents buyers from operating, and the market

RICE.-The receipts of tais grain are too light to have
any influence, on prices. The stock has baan reduced to
a very low figure, and the transactions will be confined to
small sales until the nsw crop begins to make its appear?
ance. We learn of no operations daring the week worthy

NAVAL STORES.-There has been received about 1800
bbl?, of all qualities. Some 600 bbls. Rosin were* sold at
$5@5.50 V bbL for Fate; S3.75@4 ?? bbL for No. 1 ; S3 for
No. 2, and $2.75 for No. 3. The Spirits sold at 52c ft
gallon, and closed with s lier* asking 58c The Crude

HAY.-lhere have been received about 400 bales of
North River during the week, but the inquiry for the
article is Tory limited, and we learn oi no wholesale trans?
actions. Jobbing lota of North River have been sold at

CORN-The arrivals of this grain for the week have
been about 38,000 bushels, mostly Northern and Westers
qualities. The stock of prime Maryland has been light,
and was generally held at full rates, but wo learn of no
Inge operations, while there has been a steady jobbing
de maud, the lower qualities have been dull ana difficult
ot ale in largo lota. We note sales of 2100 bushels of
