To thc Honorable the Mayor and Aldermen of the

GENTLEMHN: YOU aro respectfully invited lo at?

I am, gentlemen, with great respect,

To His Honor the Slayor, and Ucnltcmen oj' tho
City Council:
OtinxiMEN: Acting under Ibo advlco or tho
Board of Trustees, I would again call your atten?
tion to tho Holier Hospital and its uso as a general
City Hospital. When tho Board last inado appli?
cation to tho Council, tho majority roport of a Com?
mit te e. appointed by Council to consider tho appli?
cation, declined tho desired aid; as, by their slalo?
ment, tho Mazyck Strcot Hospital wu s ampio for
all the requirements of tho city. Af l er an interval
of four mon 1 bs tho Mazyck strcot Hospital is found
too small; and a now Hospital Building, "tho
Tucker House in Hampstead, boa becu Icasod and
uixunged to accommodateforty-flvo white pationts;
to which institution all tho white patienta from tho
Mazyck street building will bo transferred, leaving
the old building devoted to tho treatment of cohn -
ed patio utii. When it was deemed necessary to ex?
tend tho Hospital accommodai i mm of tho city, tho
Boper Hospital which can readily accommodate
12u patients, had 100 hods vacant, and theso bods
still await inmates. The present call of Ibo city
sick for a Hospital for forty-flvo beda could hovo
been tilled by luis than one-half of tho vacant beds
in tho Boper Hospital.
.? would beg loavo to call tho attention of Conn?

oared for in a new Hospital and iu tho ltopor Hos?

When tho forty-flvo beds havo been Ulled, which
will soon occur, thou it becomes necessary to open
a second Hospital, with at toast a duplicate ex?
pense.
IB case of an epidemic this summer a third Hos?
pital would probably be required, wit h an addi?

I havo every reason to know that, had tho privi?
lege been asked of tho Government officers to bo
aUowod to transfer tin- auppliea with tho white pa?
tients from tho Mazyck Street Hospital to tho
Boper Hospital, it would havo boon granted. T ho
BICK would thoo havo been accommodated in a
much moro convenient building, and tho city
might have been saved a considerable outlay of
mouoy.
I would respectfully suggest to tho gentlemen of
~ tho Council tho pi oprietv of using tho Hospital ac?
commodations ready to hand, by doing which thoy
can also economizo City funda.
liest ectfutly, your obeuiout servant,
J. J. OHLSOLM, M. D.,

of tho Board of Trustees of tho Hoper Hospital.
?Tho Hoper Hospital being organized with all

millions of dollars havo been judiciously oxpondod
on this Hoad, of which only $250,000 waa borrowed
under tho mortgage antliorlzod by tho Legislature.
