John Singleton and William Gibbon, two little
colored boys, who had quarreled oxtremoly about
an India rubbor ball, and had determined "to do
or die" by a resort to brickbats, woro arrcatod,
just as thoy woto loading their arms in preparation
or tho conflict, and fined each $5, which had such
an effect upon thorn as to bring an apology from
both, and It Ib bopod will mako them friends for
ever.
Six back drivers, wbo bad not tho rates of ehargo
hanging in their carriages, as directed by Ordi
uanco, wcro fined 91 oaob, and ordered to conform
to the law, which will bo very pleasing to tho
riding publie, who havo for somo time past boon
dissatisfied with the trilling charges made.

from these cause , losing their rega ia, Jowols and
tools. At the oloso of tho war tho fow surviving
members endeavored to collect thoir companions
and to rebuild the Lodge. This has boon done, but
tho reg lia, jowcls and other implements of the
craft had to bo replaced, and it was decided to
havo them m ado in Charleston. It was ascertained
that tbo work could bo performed as well and as
cheap hero as in the Northern cities.
Wo had tho pleasuro yesterday of oxaminlng tho
now regalia and thoir appurtenances, andean aafe
I ly Bay that thoy are in every respoot equal to those
modo elsewhere. Tbo Jewels wore ma le by Mr.
Joseph Book, and the engraving and decorating
by Mr. Wat. Fiscnxn. They are of pure ailvor,
and aro elaborately worked and ornamented. The
other artioles aro in keeping with the Jewels, and
the regalia and tools are worthy of tbo Lodge,
, winch though young, has an abnndanco of lifo and
I energy among its mombots, [jjj
Tho work on tbo jewels and tools is oxtremoly
noat and ornamental, and reflects great credit
upon both Mr,, Book and Mr. Fisonxh. Wo un
: der land that tho articles will be "soon placed on
exhibition at Mossrs. Wbtldeh Sc. Co.'a Jewelry
storo, whore tho curious in these matters will bo

On Tuesday lost tbo Charleston Fire Company'
knowing that " Morrio May " was the month for
out door sports and communinga with nature,
took the Mount Pleasant Ferry Boat by storm, and
accompanied by a band of musia, woro carried to
that village, whore preparations had been made to
I spend tho day. Ttrnckcn'u TJafi at the bead of the
j long wharf, was impressed for tho occasion and
tho gallant firemen with their invited guests and
a number of ladles, wore soon engaged in the
pleasures of tho merry dance. The morning horns
I passed quickly away, aa the amusomenta wen
I varied and the whole party wero evidently deter
mined to enjoy themselves.
A luncheon served to divide tho morning pleas
antly, and when tho Caterer . announood din
ner, it waa unanimously conceded that Mount
Pleasant should no longer bo callod Hungry Neck,
and the name was rated obsclete. Tho rain storm
which came up at this tlmo, though it kept the
potty in doors, cooled th atmosph re and laid the
dust, and when tho ,skies had resumed their
serenity, Tishossn's was lik a banqttot ball do
sorted, for tbo guests gladly availed themselves ol
the opportunity to stroll in the woods along the
bluff, and in the village, while some of the ladies
wore invited to tako seats in the largo swings on
the ground, and wore sent to dizzy heights by the
strong arms of their firemen boanx.
The Company had ohoaen Mount Pleasant foi
thoir company ground, knowing, from oxperionoe,
that there would bo no look of enjoyment, and the
result proved the correctness of their oholoo; foi
tho party did not return to the oltj until the las I
boat, and then with tbc firm oonvictlon that the]
