M. will be readv for delivery at ll o'clock. On Sundays the Post Office will open at 12.30 P. M. for one hour. The Mails for South Carolina Railroad will con? tinue to close daily at 6 o'clock A. INSURANCE ON THE LATE FIRE.-We leant that Mr, H. (..LARK, whoso store was set on fire Sunday night, had his stock insured for $8500 in HEBBIOT ? LANE'S Insurance Agencies. The building, which waa the property of Mr. A. VON GLAHN, was in Bured for $6000 in TUPPER & LANE'S Agencies. Neither the building nor the stock were materially injured by the fire, but Buffered principally from the water, which deluged everything. Ono.-We have been called upon by a gentleman who received a letter dated and post-marked Oro, 8. O., to inform him where the said Oro was loca? ted, bnt were unable to ascertain. Several letters directed to that place have been sent to tho Dead Letter Office, the Postoffice Department not knowing such a postoffice. It is supposed to be in a mining section as the letter in question referred j to the Challenge Mining Company of that place. As Oro is now a terra incognita, ve await an answer from some enterprising explorer who is willing to penetrate the wilds of South Carolina, particularly the mining districts. YKSTKBDAV.-Although Summer has suddenly come upon us, and brought that lassitude that is Usually induced by its first appearance, we must compliment the beautiful weather with which we were yesterday blessed. The clearness of the sky a? -tho lightness of the atmosphere-the balmy, breezes that were flowing through the streets and into the houses, exhibited such a timo as only the ?Tweet month of May om give us. That blissful j period of the year which ralli?e the sick, gives hope' to the unfortunate, and happiness to the sod, has . again returned-in ito vigor, and is spreading its ' kindnesses around. There is no month like it, and we feel confident that no day in the month can sur? pass yesterday in the beautiful feeling of elasticity, and the wholesome breathing of pure air, which we all enjoyed. Toward evening the streets were flied by ladies, who no doubt appreciated during the day the soothing softness of the air, and the Battery and King and other Btreets, were filled .with the beautiful and joyous countenances oj those whose pleasure is to revel in the lovely close ? Of a beautiful May-day. HARDWARE.-There are few persons who have Bot noticed the sign of the mammoth padlock over BUSSELL ? Co's Hardware Store, in Hazel Street. A first glance at the lock attracts the attention, and excites the wonder and curiosity, which is not Satisfied until the interior of the establishment has been explored, Messrs. BUSHELL & Co., are old hardware merchants and their stock is in every respect thorough. They have, in addition to the a . usual goods of American manufacture, a large and extensive assortment recently imported from Eng ' land, and which comprises waiters, bread tray's, - tinned and ornameD*?d ware, and a number of ar? ticles useful to the housekeeper, mechanic or ? farmer. It would be an endless task to describe the stock of a hardware store, and particularly of j ?. the one in question, as the assortment comprises every article in the hue, and the prices are like the goods, warranted to give satisfaction. We refer . ail persons who may either doubt the truth of this assertion, or.who may wish to make investments, to the sign of the mammoth padlock and they will find under it the Hardware Bazaar of B ISSELL & Co. - FAIR AT FLORENCE.- Tho little village of Flor? ence, which has hardly been in existence over a doz an years, has already outstripped many of its ii older sisters, and bids fair to become a thriving and prosperous town. It was among the few places that were not ruined by the war, but those who knew it during the last ninety days of the struggle would hardly recognize, in tho trim and flourish? ing village, the muddy hole through which the cannon of the retreating army were wearily Y^ dragged. With the rebuilding of the Northeastern Railroad sew life.waa infused into the place ; a tores | and houses were-built; workshops and factories es? tablished, and Florence is now one of the most im? portant railroad stations on that line. 'ike ladies of Florence, seeing the onward pro? gress of their town, determined to be' up to the re? quirements of the age, and will to-morrow open a lair at the Masonic Hall. It will be cou tm jed for three days, and will be varied by tableaux, char? ades, and a concert. The ladies have taken great pains to make their fair not only worthy of Flor? ence, ont equal to those given in other places, and have offered attractions that will not only induce a large attendance from their own town, but from the citizens of Charleston. The Florence Gazette states that efforts were being made to secure one fare tickets on the Northeastern Railroad for the accommodation ot thoso citizens of Charleston who may desire to attend the fair. Wo havo been assured that the Florence Fair will amply repay a visit; and an excursion party might be oasily made to visit that place, and return before its close. For particulars of price, object, Ac, we refer to the advertisement. REGATTAS.-The pleasant spring weather has tempted many persons to renew their acquaint? ance with on'-door sports, and the dullness always prevailing in mercantile circles during the summer gives them ample time for these recreations. Be? fore the war the Regatta Club of Charleston was an established institution, whose popularity in? creased with its age, and whose demise was only occasioned by the impoverished state of tho coun? try. Then the planters from different places along the coast were members; the boats were built under their own supervision, inannod by their own trained hands, and the greatest interest was mani? fested in the different contests. At the North the same lovo for aquatic sports is observed, and the recent yacht race across tho Atlantic shows what efficiency their clubs havo ob? tained. Although the Charleston Club is now de? funct there are many in the city who still havo a fondness for "a Ufe ou tho ocean wave." and an amateur club has been formed, which occasionally indulges in the excitement of-a race. The boats entered for the races are not all of them Henriettas, but aro simply pleasure boats, owned by different parties, and made from no par? ticular model. They are, however, ablo to hold their own, and would leave many finer and more elaborately built craft behind them in a race. Next to the game of base ball, there is not a moro popular amusement for a Bummer evening than a row or a sail. Our harbor is admirably adaptod fer this sport, and though tho scenery is some? what flat, yet the different points to be visited have historical associatious that will always ronder them interesting. There Will be a boat raco to-day at 3i P. M., given by the Amateur Regatta Club of Charleston, the boats leaving Southern Wharf precisely at tho hour indicated. This club ia not an organized body, but meet merely for the purpose of testing the speed of different boats. They are, howovcr, the nucleus from which will spring an organiza [ Hon tb at iu time will rival the Old Regattt, Club, and will ultimately give to Charleston a Yacht Squadron in no respect inferior to that of other citiea. MATOB'S COURT, May 13.-An individual who had gone into tho junk-shop business without triking tho trouble of providing himself with a license, was brought up, bnt was discharged, as ho was already nnder indictment for receiving stolen Roods, and as his Honor did not feel disposed to shower too many blessings on his head at one time. A man who got drunk and sat on the door step of a honse. waiting quietly for something to turn up. was highly gratifiod by the appearance of a po? liceman, who took him under his wing and deposi? ted him at the Guard Honso. where ho passed a delightful timo until brought before his Honor, who discharged him as lie had been locked up for twenty-four hours. Two other persons, who were not only drunk but excessively noisy, were mado to pay $5 for waking up the sleeping friends of law and order. COURT OP COMMON PLEAS.-There waa no Court hold yostenlay, on account of the sickness of his Honor Judge Munno. Tho petit and pleas jurors answered to the names, but were not organized, and the Court waa adjourned. U. S. DISTSICT COOBT-Hon. GEOBOE 8. BRYAN presiding.-The Grand Jurors answered to their names and were discharged until to-day, at which time I he District Attorney will present cases for their consideration. The case of the United States vs. ELIZABETH HONNOHUE, for issuing counterfeit fractional cur? rency, was withdrawn, a Not Pros, being entered. The application of L. L. HOWABD for a writ of habeas cjrpus in the case of LEE VS. HOWABD, was heard. THEO. G. BABKEB, Esq., and F. D. RICH? ARDSON, Esq., appeared for the petitioner. A. G. MAGRATH contra. Messrs. BARKER and RICHARD? SON- argued the case ably in reply to the argument of Gov. MAORATH'S, delivered some time since. The arguments involved many intricate points, and the decision of tho Court waa reserved to a future day. IN THE CIRCUIT COURT.-In the case of EEHOE k DELOIN VS. POND k DUNCAN, on motion of MAGRATH and LOWNDES, plaintiffs' Attorneys, it was ordered that the plaintiffs in this case have leave to dis? continue all farther proceedings in the case on the payment of the coats a'ready incurred.
