Hammond & McLaughlin was entered by thieves, and over $100 worth of goods abstract? ed.- Charlotte Guardian. CHOPS COMING IN.-Largo quantitios of cotton, corn and naval stores continue to flow into Now " bern. One shipment of ?OO bales will reach hore by the freight train on the Atlantic Road to-day, besides numerous smaller shipments not announc? ed in advance.-Newbern Commercial. COTTON CBOP.-It is estimated that the present cotton crop grown in Greensville, Sussex, South amptpn and Brunswick Counties, Ya., will amount to 10,000. Halifax, Warren, Franklin, Granville, Northampton, Edgecombe and Wilson Counties, North Carolina, will produce 30,000. {Norfolk Virginian. The "Lumbor Business" in this city is being pushed vigorously at present. The quantity shipped is regulated merely by tho ability of shippers to get vessels-.-Newbern Commercial. CONFEDERATE NAVY YABD,-The Navy Yard of the late Confederate StateB, at Charlotte, is adver? tised for sale by the Federal Government on the 29th inst. DEATH OP AN EDITOR.-Thomas J. Garner, editor of the Weldon State, died at that placo on Tuoaday night. ? ANSON COUNTY.-A friend informs us that tho orops in Anson the present year have boon very short. Wo see by the papers of tho 12th that a murderous attack was made on a Mr. F. Mell wean, ?Jr., on his plan- j tation, a few milos from Newbem. No'groe? had been stealing the gentleman's corn, and ho secre? ted himself in the Hold to detect the iuroadcrs. Two negroes soon made their appeai'anco, and on being questioned, deliberately shot at the gentle? man with muskots. Fortunately, tho gentleman fell at tho very moment tho guns were discharged, thus saving his life. He soon put the negroes to flight with a revolver with which he was armed. The next case reported is that of a party, dress? ed i' the Federal uniform, with their fices black (being white men), visiting the house of a Mr. John Itogers, living about fifteen milos from New? bern, and demanding money. Thoir demand be? ing .ef used, and after threatening duo punish? ment and adopting ether measures to make him yield, as a last resort they carried him, his w<fe, and a young lady, a short distance from tao house, and three of the ruffians held them down while others ransacked the house.
