Tuesday-Market opened dull, sellers not pressing
their cottons. A dispatch at noon, quoting a declino in
New York of lo, was received. 80 bales sold at 33>jo
for strict middling.
Wednesday-The inquiry goo.1., with sales of 350 bales,
at 32>?c for strict middling.
Thursday-Tho market to-day very irregular. A good
speculative inquiry occurred, but holders, unless order
ed to sell, seemed unwilling to meot tho markot

strict middling.
Towards the close of tho day private dispatches wcro
received, cutting down limits, and the market closed
dull and declining.
RECEIITS- The receipts, as a general rulo, show little
improvement at uny of the ports. This is probably caus
ed by tho slow salo of that portion of tho crop which has
gono to market, and tho obstacles in tho way of shipment
presented by the system for collecting tho tax, which,
even with its modicati?ns, works very much against tho
planters' intoreat.
