COTTON.?The past week has been most unsatisfacto
ry to dealers in tho staple, In consequonco of tho re
mnrkablo declino which has taken placo and tho unre
lieved dullness and want of spirit which ha? been o
marked feature of tho market. Liverpool and Now York
appear to havo acted and reacted on each othor, on each
occasion a fall In price, takiiia place, until Middling Up
land has been forced down somo flvo cent? $ lb. since
our last wookly statomont. This heavy docllnc is owing
partly to an opinion held by mnuy outeldo of the Cotton
States that tho crop will certainly reach 2,000,000 bales,
to the now reasonable certainty that Egypt will send near
000,000 bales to market, and that tho crop of India pro
mises well, with a fair prospect from othor Cotton re
gions. Manufacturers cotisoiuontly anticipate an ample
supply of tho raw material, and therefore purchase with
caution. Tho receipt? at this point for the post week foot

The week's transactions opened on Friday last with a
Ilot market and declining prices, caused by tho receding
ratna at Liverpool and Now York, which induced pur
chasers to absent thcmBclvos, or only show a disposition
to opcrato nt largo concessions, causing a HtiBpcnplon of
bUBlncss. The sales on that day were 10 bales nt 33e.

On Saturday thoro was but little ?disposition ou the
part of buyers to go on. Tho market throughout tho day
waB without animation. The sales were 135 bales, Liver
pool Middling soiling for 31c. 9 lb, and tho transactions
being confined almost entirely to one buyer.
On Monday sellers having yielded their prices to the
extent of 2c. 73 lb on tho ratC3 existing on Thursday,
transactions to tho extent of G35 bales took place, Middling
being quoted at 34c, and Strict Middling at 85a35)?c.

On Tuesday tho market was dull, buyers generally
holding off for lower prices. The sales wore restricted
to some 260 baton, at about tho ratcB of tho day beforo.
On Wednesday, prices having fall?n off both at Now
York and Liverpool, the staple hero uudorwont a decline
of about lc. "9 lb from tho rates of tho provlous day, tho
transactions amounting to 248 bales. Middling Cotton

Yesterday tho markot was irregular, but tho rates
showed a farther declino to tho extent of },alc. ^ lb,
