Friday, Juiy 27_ibis wau tho last night of the
session, but ovorybody waB so fagged from tho
long session and hot woathor, that but little of
unusual interest was mauifeetcd.
The Oommittoo on tlio Judiciary mado their re
port on the assassination conspirators ; but as wo
gave it infull in our telographio columnaomo days
ago, we will not ropoat it.
Tho Equalizition of B'UintioB has no spooial in
terest for our rcadere, except bo far as it adds con
siderably to tho exponaos of tho Qovernment ; but
in that wo havo no say, and so wo shall Bay noth
ing about it.
In the Sonato, a portion of tho day was devotod
to tho case of Senator Pattkbsox. Tho Judioiary
Committco found that ho had onoo taken an oath
to support the Confederate and State Government
of TonnoBse, but there were so many palliating
circumstances connected thorewith, chief among
which was tho fact that when olooted to tho
Judgoship in question ho ran as a Union candi
date against a determined rebbl, that tho majority
of that Committee reportod in favor of bia adrnia
sion by suspending in his cabo a portion of the
Tost Oath. Although a minority report was sub
mitted and. urgod with much vigor by Messrs.
Trdmbull and Howard, the joint resolution
passed with only Uve votes in the 'negativo, and
was sent to the House.
At 10 P. M. the reeolntion came np in the House.
Mr. Matnabd took the floor in an argument in
favor of admitting Mr. Pattebsok, and in a re
Tiew of the palliating circumstances of his case,
which are oertainly very great. Buell.vrarger
assailed it with all hiBpowor,and was auccoodod by
Mr. Taylob, of East Tennessee, who represents
Mr. Pattsbson's district, and who testified to all
the oiroumatanoea ol' his dovotion to tho Union.
Mr. Conejuno, of New York, next had the floor,
and yielded it to Mr. Stokes, of Tennoasoe, who,
While indorsing tho Unionism of the applioant,
made a strong appeal ?ig iiust any modification or
repoal of tho tost oath. Eldridge finally tripped
him up with that letter of hie, written in 1861, in
which he said he was opposed to coercion. Stokes
replied vigorously to this. Judge Patterson was
among the listeners on the floor.
Our readers will remmember that the telegraph
has already announcod that Judgo F. took tho
oath and his soat.
We pass by other matters, all anticipated by
telegraph, and presont tho following itoms of in
terest :
BALES OF RAILROADS.
It appoars from a statement made by tho War
Department, relative to the Bale of railroads and
railroad stocks io Southern States by the Quarter
master-General, that the amount of such sales for
cash was $3,403,402 22, and for credit $7,418,962 30.
Gen. MoGuham says, the greater portion of this
property had been on band and in use a long time,
and though the prices obtained were below the
? cost, with some exception they aro behoved to bo
very favorable to the Government. The sales on
- credit wero better than those for oaah. In order
to secure the payment for Bales on oredit, compa
nies purchasing were required to give bonds in
? double the amount of property transferred to
-them. Theso bonds aro all on filo in the War De
partment. They give the Government a hen upon
tho property, and require prompt payments of all
instalments of purchase money.
A great number of companies have failed to
comply strictly with the turma of their hondo, bul
.owing to the prostrate condition of the roads, and
the expense of repairing thom, it is believed they
are actually unable to meet their obligations. It
is thought that an attempt to enforce immediate
payment would arrest the operation of the roads
and defeat the very purpose bad in view in mak
ing oredit saloa. The roads all manifest a wil
ling ii ess to meet their engagements, and a large
proportion of tho payments already made bavo
.been cash. All moneys accruing to their credit
for transportation of troopa, supplies and the
mails are stopped against them and applied in
liquidation of their indebtedness, and it is con
fidently believed that in this manner the whole
amount will ultimately be secured.
Another curious item for these times is the pay
ment for onliatod slaves. The amendment for the
pavment of bounties to the loyal masters of
enlisted slaves was concurred in.
From the dispatches to the New York Times we
-copy the following:
The capture of the rebel archives has put the
Government in possession of a mass of letters,
panera and documents of various kinds, only a
portion of which have as yet been examined.
The examination, thua far, has thrown light
upon the general policy of the rebel anthorities,
which, in many particulars, involved a total diare
gard of international law, and of the uaages of olvil
"od war. The Secretary of War, through Francis
Xiiober, LL. I)., Chief of the Archive Office, has
furnished to the Oommittoo copies of various let
ters and papers found in the War Office at Bich
mond, bearing upon four points of the policy of
the rebel Government.
First-With regard to the negroes bearing
arms.
Second-The condition of rebel prisons and the
treatment of prisoners.
Third- Ordora issued and letters written by the
robel Secretary of War lu relation to the Union
prisoners; and
Fourth -Views and suggoctions of Jeff. D ivis in
regard to Union prisoners.
" Copies of these papers have been furnished to
the Committee, and a synopsis thereof is here
with submitted as a part of this, report. While
the evidence thus furni?hod does not bear direct
ly upon tho question submitted to the Committee,
it has been thought advieable to lay it before Con
g rest* and the oonntry as showing the brutal and
Inhuman policy of the mon who instigated and
.guided the rebellion, and aa being in that particu
lar intimately connected with the attempts that
were made to burn tho cities of the North, to de
stroy its commeroe on the rivers, lakes and -the
ocean, without regard to the loes of life; and
finally, with the assassination of the President of
the United States.
The Times then gives seven or eight closely
printed columns of "documents" from Dr. Francis
Lisbeb's "archives."

four London house? which must soon be cleared
away in tho neighborhood of Temple Bar-tho
site being required for the new Temple of Justice
-is that in which "Holloway," of pill and oint
ment celebrity, carries on his operations. A re
turn has just boen furnished to tho oity authori
ties as the foundation of a claim for compensation,
from which it appears that tbo profils of the
business for the last three years amounted to
between thirty thousand And forty thousand
pounda sterling. Tho sum paid for advertising ia
over twenty thousand pounds sterling per annum,
and the ctaff of the establishment includes two
hundred women, whoso sole duty it is to look after
the advertisements, and Bee thai they are inserted
aa ordored.

Chicago to Aurora, Iii., and returning, recently
took placo, the ears used being Pullman's railway
palaces. Four hundred lauies and gnntlomen
participated. The d_rs aro oaoh e(xty-three foot
long, ten and a half feet wide, and nearly eleven
feet nigh in the clear. Eaoh ia calculated to ac
commodate fifty-four passengers, containing
thirty-two double hoi the. They cost upwards of
twenty thousand dollars each. Exquisite carving
adorns overy part of tho interior. The upholatery
is of rich Brussels carpet, damask curtains,

finished in the highest style of art by the gildor,
landsoapo painter and varnlaber.
