This journal will be devoted to literature, morality
and general intelligence, and the promulgation of the
occurrences of tbe day?political and general?which
may be of interest to the people.
No paiu? or expense will be spared by the proprietor
to render his paper acceptable to aU claaae? of readers.
He confidently refers to hi? long experience (of 32 years)
lu the pastes a journalist, to secure for him the pat
ronage of the people of his District.
He congratulate? himself that he can select for the
Inauguration of his enterprise no better occasion than
tbo present. At the termination of a long ahd bloody
struggle, In which the principles of free government
have be*u overridden and the Constitution trampled
under foot?In {which all tbo angry passions of
frail and erring human nature have been excited and
exorcised?the Angel of Peace 1? now about to unfold
her wing? over all ?ectlons of our common country, and

To the people of Sumter District be confidently ap
peals for their sympathy and patronage.
Identified as he has ever been with them and their in
terest lu the post, he asks to be allowed the same privi
lege In the future. He expeota to build up for them a
Dlatrict paper, the course of which will be constatent,
E rodent and patriotic, and one which he hopes will not
e wanting in Its Influence en the education and training
of the rising generation.
