CHARLOTTE AND SOUTH CAROLINA RAILROAD_ In reference to this road, the Charlotte Times says : "During a pleasant conversation, on Satur? day morning, with Col. WM. JOHNSTON, we were gratified to learn that the rebuilding of this road was in rapid process of completion. The bridge across the Catawba will be ready for the train to pass over by the 10th of May, and the entire tract relaid to Columbia-thns making our connection with Charleston perfect," THE CENTRAL. RAILROAD.-Wo learn from a gen? tleman who obtained his information from Ooh W. M. WADLEY, President of the above road, that by the first of April there will remain incomplete only forty-four miles of the Central Road; and that by the first of Jane the entire line will be ready for the passage of trains from Savannah to Macon. Great credit is due that prince of rail? road men, Col. WASLEY, for the energy he has dis? played in bringing order oat of chaos, and the traveling public will not be slow in awarding it to j him while being spirited over that admirable line j of railway. LAUNCH OF A 8TEAMEB.-A superior light draught j e te amer, intended for the river trade, was launched j yesterday afternoon, from the ship yard at Rail road Accommodation Wharf. She has been built by Mr. F. M. JONE a, for Messrs. JOHN FERGUSON and Captain MANSFIELD. The latter was for many j yeara engaged in the trade on the Peedee River, and is well known, and will take command of the new boat, which is to bo known as the Marion. Sho was launched with her machinery, and only drew fifteen inches of water. The joiners' work was executed by JAMES JONES. Machinery by JOHN F. TAYLOR and W. S. HENEKY. The Marion measures one hundred and forty feet on deck, twenty-two feet beam, and six feet hold, and is considered one of the beet boats ever built here. THE Eastern South Carolina Journal has a dolo? rous account of a robbory committed, on 8anday night last, by some person or persons unknown. The ?aid person or persons having feloniously on tered the office of the above named paper and then and there abstracted- a compoaiog stick. -o THE ANDERSON Appeal is a new paper, published at Anderson Court House ia this State; Messrs. W. E. WALTERS and W. W. HUMPHREY, Editors. It presents indications of being a vory ably-edited ana well-conducted journal. The Appeal has oui hearty welcome, and best wishes for its pros perity._ YOUTHFUL COUPLE.-The LaorcnsviUe lierait says that a marriage recently took place in Lau rons District, in this State, between a bridegroon aged 83 years, and a bride of 55. The ministei officiating was 85. The affair was a runawaj match-the parents ot the bride having refus?e their consent to their young daughter's makins 80 nnequal a match. PBOTOST COUBT.-Bonjamin Gadndcn, colored and Aleo Waring, colorod.-Theft.-Grt GIBBS testified that tbe defendant took down shutters of tho window to his house, and bavin entorod it stole two new ehirts, ono pair of draw ors >*nd a musket. Witness recognized ono of hil si. i on the defendant Waring. Thc Court founc Benjamin Gadsden not guilty, and sentenced Aleo Waring to pay a fine of $30 or be imprisoned twenty days. There were soveral other cases before the Court I but no prosecutors or witnet ses appearing, I defendants were discharged. MATOB'B CODBT.-A man whe had stored burnl ' cotton on hie premises, against the city ordinance was fined $50 very properly. The lady, whose house in Elliott street took fire on Wednesday night, was brought to the Guard House, just as the flames had been extinguished decidedly inebriated, and for loudly expressing strong desire to pitch into some male friend, who had saved nothing for her but a bottle of whiskey with the whiskey out. She stated that it was pint with her never to drink unless she was trouble, and that she was in great trouble on that night when ehe WEB burnt out. The Mayor kind ly fined her $3, with an intimation that if she didn't take care of herself che would soon burnt out in another way. A sailor, who had arrived in the city after the j hotels were closed, took a bed in the market, but finding the room he selected rather damp, was prevailed upon by one of the "purleeee" to chang his quarters to the Guard House, where he slept until woke up by the Mayor, to whom he returned thanks for the elegant manner in which he had been accommodated. A man who had given a ball without a license at Temperance Hall, at which persons of bad re pute were in attendance, was fined $100, which certainly was a decided "trip'' to "the light fan tastic too." Another virtuous gentleman, who was selling liquor at the Temperance Hall, by way of promo I ting agreeability in the above "gay and festive ! scene," was also fined $100, which, we suppose will leave him but a small profit on the money he I invested in that kind of alcoholics always known ! ae "the best." An old customer, with nearly all his features I destroyed but his month, was again brought I drunk, and sentenced to $10 fine, which he will take out in wheat and water. We are in hopes that he will bo better bred when he comos out. BETCBNINO HOME_The valuable collections the Mus cum of the College of Charleston, which was removed into tho interior of the State during the war, we are glad to see are arriving by rail road in detachments. We hope soon to hear that the Museum is again all right and ready to re ceive visitors. Dr. B. W. GIBBES, .SB., of Columbia, we loam I from the Phoenix, is at the lalo of Pines, where he intends settling with his family. Dr. GIBBEH has been spending the winter in Cuba. BUSINESS NOTICES. L.
