Inquests.?A Coroner's Inque.-t was held yester
day, at No. ? Lucas-street, on the body of J.
Boinest (colored). Verdict of the Jury?"Death
from intermittent fever."
An Inquest was also held at No. 12 Charlotte
street, on the body of Elsey Martin (colored).
Ycrdiet of the Jury?"Death from diptheria."
From LivEnroot?The first arrival at this port,
from Europe, since the cessation of hostilities,
took place jyesterday, by the coming into port of
the British barque Melbourne, in forty-eight days
from Liverpool. Hor cargo consisted of two hun
dred and three tons coal, to the Gas Company,
and other merchaadi.-e, consigned to Messrs.
Guides & Co.
New Building.?A. F. Ravenel, Esq., President
of tho Nortlioastcrn Railroad Company, has en
gaged'the services of Mr. Jasies P. Eable, ono of
our well known contractors, to erect a building for
& Depot for the NOrthoasteru Railroad Company,
on tho foundation of the structure destroyed by
fire in February lost. They purpose in tjie future
to erect a second edifice to tho eastward of tho old
jbiiUding, which is intended to be a more commo- j
dious and convenient Depot, which will be exclu
sively used for passengers.
A SoLDiEtt's Foetune.? Bloxby is an old sol
dier. In '3C ho went to Florida to fight the In
dians. Ho never fought. He proceeded no further
than St. Augustine, where he protected the r hab
itants. Thoy looked upon him as the defender of
their soil and honor, and treated him as such. Ho
accepted their treats.
He tells us why ho never fought. Tho Indians
never came in his way, and he wisely never went
in theirs. It saved bloodshed. For a time the
rudo floor was his bed. The people sent him tick.
Ho lived on tick.
He was ordered home. Ho arrived and put up
at a hotel, expecting to be feted. Ho was footed.
He was in a dilapidated state. The ladies saw
him. His clothes were partly in tears. The fe
luales'ail in tears. Sonic of them were soon paired.
His inexpressibles were not repaired.
He was fed on beef and mustered out. His arms:
were taken from him. His legs were left. Thoy
were a support in oxtiomity. He cares not for war
as long as a piece of them remains.
