IE ember Slother, Hoy s. How tho chirp ot' that lonely crick* t brings lo mind that dear old heme, es, years and years ago, we are afraid to say how many-when tho breezes rept in under the low hanging branch es and tho graceful elm swept thc roof of the old home a loving embrace, when the odor of phlox and tuberoses was wafted in from the garden. We remember the deep dark shadow under the rough old oak, and the ruddy lights the red curtained windows; thc pleasant rooms, the books, the music, and-mother. Do you remembor mother? It is your mother we mean. The mother who laughed over our baby antics, grew proud of our boyish triumphs, hid her dad heart beats when we left the home fold to win our way in the world, the mother whose hair grew gray in her oare for us, whose heart grew humble by tho mul titude of her prayers in our behalf j whose faoe grew more tender as the years marked their progress upon her oheckB, whose stops faltered and whose hands trembled because her bouyanoy had been given freely in our behalf. The mother who staid tu tho old home while we were far away. Tho mother bird in the nest after the fledgling had flown. There came at last a let ter to us in another hand, and dear old mother was at rest. Then we went home, but the old time home was gone forever. Ah, we know, how trivial everything then seemed beside mother's love. We know how a kind word of old would have oheered her heart. We know how the business cares orowded out the homo letters; and how mother watohed and waited for the tardy missive. We knew how her heart bled for an old time caress, and how she went to rest with a pray er on her lips for you. And now it is too late, and the oriokets play their lonesome melody, while a white stone in "God's Acre" marks where mother rests after her work is done. Remem ber mother, boys, before it is too late -we have yet time to show our ap preciation of her love. See her hair, it is as white as snow, and it has been bleaohed by care of us. Watch her stops how they falter. Cherish her. Show her your love. Court her as you would a sweetheart, if you would make her happy. All too soon this mother will be gone, and then God grant tho cricket Bong will bring us naught but kind memories. A Hip Pookot Cloc?le. In the sixteenth and> seventeenth centuries various sculptors in ivory were engaged in carving portions of tusks with classical and other sub jects, whiq? were afterward mount ed in silver and silver gilt by some of the finest Augsberg and Nuremberg workers and formed vases and tank ards. In the eighteenth century various carvings in ivory were made, chiefly of statuettes and small plaques, but none attains to the ex cellence of the es/lier carvings.
