Local News* WEDNESDAY, JI NK 'Jo, 1H02. The Fourth of Julv at Pelzer. For a number of years the Fourth of July tit Pelzer has been a memorable occasion, attracting largo crowds of people, young and old. from all the surrounding country, who spend the day in having a most enjoyable time. This year the citizens of the town aro determined to make the exercises sur pass all previous efforts. They have provided for a reunion of the Confed erate Veterans from all parts of upper South Carolina, and will make an effort to secure the attendance of every one possible. Various exorcises will be held on the grounds of the Pelzer Athletic Associa tion, including a grand parade, a bar R'cuc, prize drills, sham battle, base hall, horse races, foot races and bicycle races. Dinner and free admission to the grounds will be furnished to all old soldiers and members of militia com panies. Julia, the intant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Murphy, was quietly laid to rest last Siiuiluy after noon at this place. The bereaved pa rents have the sympathy of their friends. Had the little darling lived until the 20th of this month she would have been one year old. Our friend, Edward King, is at homo again, to the delight of his many friends. Miss .Callaham is a. charming young lady of many natural gifts, while Mr. Iteid is an in dustrious young mnn. We wish the liappv couple all the pleasure that this world can afford them. The Brushy Creek Singing Associa tion met with the Corinth Church ou the 22nd of June with n full attendance of Professors and a large attendance of visitors. Everybody seemed to enjoy the Binging, as it \va3 very line, and friends met with friends until every body seemed happy. Mr. JesBe Verniilliou and wife, of Texas, are visiting their old mother State. Their many friends are delight ed to see them one*' more. By request Mr. Vermillion tilled the pulpit at Cor inth Sunday afternoou and preached an able sermon. After eight weeks of dry weather we are having nice showers again, which are doing wonders for our crops and gardens. John Honderson and Warren Martin exhibited cotton blossoms last week. Oscar Pepper seems very glad over his ten-pound plow boy. Miss Sadie Kichey is visiting in our fiidst. Some of our young men would like her to remain with us. Kohr. Henderson is wearing a broad 3iuile?it is a girl. A protracted meeting will begin at Fairview on the third Sunday in July, ami at Corinth on the fourth Sunday in .luly. Ou Thursday, June 10, at 13:30 p. m., the soul of little Carl, the four-months old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Shirley, took its eternal llight after n brief illness of cholera infantum. Every thing that loving hands could do to minister to his comfort and relief was done but in vain. Though stricken with grief, his loved ones cannot but iake comfort in such a death, nud re joice that all is well with their darling und that he is safe in his eternal home "to be forever with the Lord." May God comfort the bereaved parents in ?lie hour of trial and distress. . A Friend.
