ful origin of thc government of these
'Confederate States of Auierioa.' We
thank thee for the quiet considerate
unanimity which has prevailed in our
public councils: and for thc hallowed
auspices under which the government
of our choice begins. Let thy special
blessing rest on thc engagements and
issues of this day. Thou hast pro
vided us a man to go in anti out before
UP, and to lead thy people. O! vouch
safe thy blessing on this, thy servant!
Let his life and health be precious in
thy sight. Grant him a sound mind
in a sound body. Let all his acts bc
done in thy fear, under thy guidance,
with a .'-ingle eye to thy glory, and
crown them all with thy approbation
and blessing!
"With the like favors, bless tho
Congress of thc? Confederate States,
and all who are, or may be, charged
by lawful authority with public cures
and lubors. Put thy good Spirit into
our whole people, that they may faith
fully do all thy fatherly pleasure.
Let thc administration ol' this govern
ment bo thc reign of truth and peace ,
let righteousness, which cxalteth a
nation, be thc stability of our times,
and keep us from sin, which is a re-*
proach to any people; establish thou
the work of our h and a upon us ; turn thc
councils of our enemies into foolish
ness; and grant us assured and con
tinual peace in all our borders!
"Wo ask all through Jesus Christ
our Lord; Amen!"
"Hon. Howell Cobb, President of
Congress, administered thc oath of
office, the'President laying his left
Land on the Bible, and reverently
holding up his right hand. At thc
close of the oath the President audibly
repeated thc concluding words, 'So
help me, God!'
"Thc day was pleasant, and thc
pageant was very fine. I believe it
was tho largest crowd I ever saw to
gether. May the blessing of God rest
on this government of the Confede

There is no pleasanter task than to
advise a young girl about her wedding
that is, provided she is like Coun
try (?iri, sensible ami intelligent, re
garding marriage as a sweet and seri
ons thing, and not simply as a goo
opportunity for celling an ?labor?t*
trousseau and of settling in life astin
wife ol' a rich or prominent man. Mar
ri ugo means the begiuning ol' a nev
linnie, ol' a new life, a nev; center o
inlluetiee. While everything in rca
son should he done to make her wed

more sensible to take the money tba
would bo used simply for display uni
pui it into comforts for the new home
that will he a pleasure to many io
years lo come. Keeping this though
io mimi, it is simply a matter for per
.?mal taste t ? decide whether tin
wedding shall bc at home or in tl.
church.
The home webling means fewc
guests, but theil1 is a sweetness an
simplicity about it that has a chan
for many. There are those who fee
that they want only the friends wh
really love them to bc present ut th
ceremony, while others believe thc
marriage ia both a civil and rcligiou
act. and thc only proper plaec for it
solemnization is thc house of Goc
For a small home wedding' the iuviti
tions might be written by thc brid
to the few friends und relatives sh
desires to have present, and engrave
announcement cards sent out imim
diatcly after the wedding to all frient
and acquaintances of thc family.
The form of the announcemei
would bc:
Mr. and Mrs. William James Smitt
Announce the marriage of their daugl
ter, Mildred Anne,
to
Mr. John Hawson Brown,
Tuesdny, January twenty-fourth,
Eighteen hundred and ninety-nine
Louisville, Keutucky.
Any good city stationer will sci
forms to select from. There arc,
course, two envelopes; thc outside ni
should bc souled, uddressed to M
and Mrs. Boswell P. Jones, 201) Ulai
Street, Louisville, Ky., and have a
cent stamp. The inner envelo]
should bear ihc name only, witho
the address, us Mr. and Mrs. Boswi
1'. .Iones.
These announcements should be so
to the friends und acquaintances
both families.
For a church wedding in a sm;
town thc invitations should bc gent
al. A scnsiblo person docs not f<
obliged to give a present because i
vited to a church wedding. Preset
should come only from those who fi
a personal interest in thc bride a
groom, and who give for love of thi
and for no other reason. Certainly
rightminded girl ever receives a
pleasure from a wedding gift tl
comes as a mere matter of form fr
ono who has no affection for her.
! In regard to tho trousseau, evoi
I thing depends upon tho purse and t
position of the individual. Sty
change so that it is always foolish
a woman to have more dresses tl
she actually needs. It is better
buy a few dresses and to wear th

have so many gowns that they m
bo made over and ovor to suit
changing fashions before they aro w
out. If a girl lives in a small pla
where the life is quiet, she will
need so many gowns as the bride t
goes to a large oity, where she will
constantly attending teas, dinners
receptions. The prospective bi
will know about what to expect in

S. S. S, ls the Only
Remedy Equal to this
Obstinate Disease.
There- are dozens of remedies recommended for
Scrofula, some of them no doubt being able to
afford temporary relief , hut B. S. ?. ia absolutely
tho only remedy which completely cures it.
Scrofula is one of the most obstinate, deep-seated
blood diseases, and is beyond the reach of the
many so-called purifiers and tonics because some
thing more than a mere tonic is required. 8. B. H.
is equal to any blood trouble, and never fails to cure Scrofula, because it
goes down to the seat, of the disease, thus permanently eliminating every
trace of the taint.
The serious consequences to which Scrofula surely leads
should impress upon those afflicted with it the vital im
portance of wasting no time upon treatment which can
not possibly effect a cure. In many coses where the wrong
treatment has been relied upon, complicated glandular
swellings have resulted, for which the doctors insist that
a dangerous surgical operation is necessary.
Hr. U.E. T h o m p 3 on, of M i 11 ed ge v i lie, Ga., writes : "A
bad caso of Scrofula broke out on the glands of my neck,
which had to be lanced and caused me much suffering. I
was treated for a long while, but the physicians were un
able to cure me, and my condition was as bod as when I
began their treatment. Many blood remedies were used,
but without effect. Some one recommended S. S. 8., and
I began to improve as soon ns I had taken a few bottles.
Continuing tho remedy, I was soon cured permanently,
and have never had a sign of the disease to return." Swift's Specific
S. S. S. FOR THE BLOOD
-Is tho only remedy which can promptly reach and cure obstinate, deep-seated
blood diseases. By relying upon it, and not experimenting with the various
so-called tonics, etc., all sufferers from blood troubles can De promptly cured,
instead of enduring years of suffering which gradually but surely undermines
tho constitution. 8. S. S. is guaranteed purely vegetable, and never fails to
euro Scrofula, Eczema, Cancer, Rheumatism, Contagious Blood Poison, Boils,
Tetter, Pimples, Sores, Ulcers, etc Insist upon S. S. S. ; nothing can take its place.
