The Veterans Pleased With Charles
ton's Hospitality.
AxnKitsox, S. C., May hitit, I Mill?.
l'UlUor? inteUUjcnvt'T: Please give
space in your columns fur a few old
Veterans to thank thc kind, generous
hearted citizens of Anderson, who so
kindly assisted us to visit the Charles
ton Reunion, thc grandest ovation ever
tendered the Confederate Veterans.
May God bless the people of Anderson.
Through them we have partaken of
that we never dreamed of ; wc met
those we never expected to see again ;
wc can not lind words to express- our
gratitude to the gootl people of Ander
son. As to Charleston we can only say
she overdone the thing. And while
we are loud in our praise for the City
by the Sea, we regret that one of our
number should return home and under
rate the thing. Coing, as he did, on a
complimentary ticket, free from any
expense, lind he only eaten black mo
lasses, bread and water, any old hero
would have praised it. We will tell
the people what we had and no truth
ful Veteran will deny it. Here is the
i)ill of fare : Roiled liam, boiled beef,
beef hash, Irish potatoes, rice, loaf
bread, corn bread, pickles, gootl cottee
and sugar. Wc cat on a nice table, hail
new dishes, new knives and forks, and
think 1,440 men were served at once.
Wo also had cots to sleep on. Gen. doe
Wheeler inspected our lodging and
pronounced it good ; in fact, he said in
our presence that Charleston was ahead
of all the reunions he had seen. Now,
Mr. Editor, this is the truth, the whole
truth and nothing td se.
Long live the people of Anderson is
thc wish of your humble servants.

AU winter it was too wet, and now it is

Wc have been ploughing hard to-day
and ave somewhat tired to-night ns we
endeavor to give the readers of the
dear old INTELLIGENCER a few thoughts
from this locality.
A good rain is much needed in these

uring very much, and so is upland
corn-and, well, "old cotton" is coming
out just the same, beiug thinned out to
a stand. May the rains descend.
Miss Olive McAwain, of Abbeville,

It was tho happy pleasure of this

of the Zarline School last Thursday
night, and from the way the pupils ac
quitted themselves goes to show that
the teachers, Miss Leslie Branyon and
Miss Cora Elgin, have well rendered
their faithful services to the patrons of
the school. Wc would like to make
mention of all tho songs, recitations,
dinlogues, charades, etc., but for tho
wont of space we will not. Owing to
the large crowd present everybody
never got seated, nnd a goodly number
failed to see or hear any of thc pro
