! day. The weather was against the oc
casion, hut the many friends of. thc firm
gave them a call and admired the large
and handsome display of goods. A
piano had been brought in specially for
the occasion, and at intervals some se
lect music was rendered. Thc decora
tions were simple but pretty. Many
new novelties were shown in almost
every department, and the prices (plo
ted were very reasonable. The ladies"
goods this season are very attractive
and they will have no trouble in select
ing their outfits at Lesser & Co's.
The annual spring opening at the
store of Messrs. J. ]1. Weil & Co. took
place yesterday, and despite thc un
favorable weather was a big success.
Throughout the day the different de
partments of the establishment were
thronged with spectators, the huge
majority of whom were of the fair sex,
who were loud in their praises ol'the
beautiful display of goods. The beau ti
tittil display of goods. The beautiful
fill show windows were grea tly admired,
and the millinery and dress goods de
partments were specially attractive.
The decorations in every department
were exquisitely arranged, and the en
chanting music rendered hythe Ander
son Orchestra throughout the day was
greatly enjoyed by the many visitors.
Messrs. Weil & Co. were warmly con
gratulated on their display. .
Mrs. Mary E. Williamson died at the
home of her son-in-law, Mr. George W.
Fant, in this city, last Thursday. She
was sick only about forty-eight hours,
and the announcement of her death
was a great shock to her friends and
relatives. The deceased was a native
of Fairfield County, S. C., and was in
the 87th year of her age. Her maiden
name was Xe vit, and her paren ts moved
to Anderson County in 1832. She. mar
ried Reuben Williamson, of Laurens
County, and he preceded her to the
grave years ago. She was the mother
of three children, only one of whom,
Mrs. T. J. Webb, of this city, survives
her. Mrs. Williamson was a most ex
cellent woman, and had long been a
devoted member of the Baptist Church.
On Friday morning, after appropriate
funeral services conducted by Rev. 0.
L. Martin at the home of Mr. Fant, the
remains were interred in the Silver
Brook Cemetery.
