Local News. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 1899. Septus Riflings. Well. Mr. Editor, we are glad to say that this leaves Septus in the very host of health, and we trust that it will And yon with the INTELLIGENCER force and all of your readers the same. As we write to-night (Saturday) a perfect gale is blowing from the southwest, a heavy rain is falling, and the indica tions are there will 13c hut little plow ing done during the incoming week. Our friend, Air. C. L. Dalrymple, has moved to his plantation, near Denver. We trust that ne will visit us as often as possible that we may know his love for us has not grown cold. Mr. C. E. Johnsons new bell peals forth a musical sound at fouv o'clock in the morning that brings forth the slumbers of the neighborhood. A trunk was broken open in town last week for a pair of twenty-five cents cuff buttons, and surely the per petrator of the crime is only robbing the devil of that much fuel every day that they live. The peach crop in Septus will be a complete failure this year, as the buds have already been killed by the extreme cold weather. We were somewhat surprised, Mr. Editor, in looking over last week's IN TELLIGENCER to find that we had been fired ou by some party or parties who - failed to give a Heading to their little article, thus trying to Keep us in the dark as to who they were or their whereabouts. While we have treed them, yet we think they acted wisely j in trying to keep themselves hidden, j for from the gist and tone of the little article we would take them to be moun taineers that had done- nothing all of their daysbutdriveoxwagons. Though the little gun fired at us was quite small, being a twenty-two calibre, yet ' we learn from a reliable source that it took three persons to man it, owing to the fact that neither of the three are overburdened with sense, yet they would make believe if possible that they were a double first cousin to King Solomon. And now, dear friends, we admit that we are not a subscriber of the INTELLIGENCER, but quite often borrow it, and in doing so we hardly . think there, is any great crime com mitted, for we know of a woman some time ago to borrow a lady's bonnet to wear to town and then after leaving home even exchanged that one in order that she could boast of having worn the bonnet of a doctor's wife. Selah ! Again you are right, "Hard Times," in thinking we have had some experience at night-watching, and really we be lieve we are better qualified for the position than you are, as we tried as much as possible to take in the whole of Septus, while your watching is con signed, mostly to Tatter's street. Allow us to thank you from the very bottom of our heart for having been so easy with ns in giving it out that it was a bird hunt that we were so badly "left in," for some of the boys are telling that they considered it a ouzzard hunt. In advising ns to attend the Lebanon High School and take lessons in Eng lish grammar before writing for the papers, we suppose you have reference to what we said about the school being in a "flourishing condition." Now, we want to inform you that by no means is that a grammatical mistake, but a rhetorical mistake, one that is used by men that have forgotten more than you w?l ever know. So instead of attend ing a high school, we would advise you to attend a low one and see if it can be ?umped into that squash of yours the ifference between grammatical and rhetorical. In fact," if you should find a mistake in our "write ups" we trust that you will not criticise too severely, as we do not claim to have taken tfio degree of either L. L. D., M. D., D. D., Ph. D. or "Hisonduce." And now, in conclusion, widower friend "Hard Times," we want to say that if you are as anxious co marry as you were two months ago, and still havn't heard from that love letter that you got "Eric" to write to that Greenville County sweetheart of yo ara some time ago, ju?t call around and we will fit you up with another one, adding a lit tle more love toit. Really, though, old boy, we believe it would be well for you to try your luck in some distant land where you are not so well known. Having mastered English grammar so thoroughly, please give us a few dots from your own pen next week, and if you can't "write up" then "shut JIP;" With much love to all, ERIC. Roy Xews. Very little farm work has been done up to this time. The farmers have got the most of their guano at home, but it looks like they will not get to use it after allon account of the bad weather. One of Big Springs' most charming young ladies spent the other week in this section visiting friends and rela tives. If she comes again, I think one of our boys will be sure to lose his mind, for he went to Cook's Station the other day and mailed a postal card without an address on it. Ask him what he was thinking about? Miss Emma Shirley, of this section, spent last week up on Big Springs side with friends and relatives. She said she hud a flue time. Mrs. J. I.
