Mr. Paul Gosden, formerly of Ander
son, and the only son of the late Rev.
Thos. F. Gasden, is in the city visiting

Mr. W. Baylis Hall, while out hunt
ing on his farm in Hopewell Township
.A few days ago, flushed a covey of
; nine partridges and killed eight of
them at ono shot.
Mr. H. T. Hays has moved from An
derson to Greenwood, where he will
\ engago in business. He is an upright,
worthy citizen, and we reglet to see
him leave Anderson.
Rev. M. H. Major, of Fort Worth,
Texas, arrived in Anderson on the ?Otb
nit. to visit his mother and other rela
tives iu this County. He went to Texas
about eight years ago and this is his
first visit l ack to his old home. He
looks halo and hearty, aud his visit to
his old homo is a source of much pleas

Miss Tribble has been the guest, of Mrs.
(J. N. C. Iloleinnu. She entered upon
tho work of her new tield Monday.
The storerooms occupied by Thus.
D. Cooley and Harper & Latimer at
Lowndesville were destroyed by lire
last Friday night. Mr. Cooley occu
pied the tirst and second floors of the
two-room brick building belonging to
his brother, Mr. D. K. Cooley, on
which t beni was no insurance. The
one-story brick building ?uni the con
tents of Harper & Latimer were fully
covered by insurance. Th?' lire is

We chronicle with great sadness the
fact that Kev. Wm. Aiken Kelly, pas
tor of thc Magnolia Street Methodist
Church,has been missing for nearly two
weeks. He was in Charleston ou a
visit and disappeared from there sud
denly, and tl ere has not been the
slightest trace of him since, lt is be
lieved that his mimi has been tempo
rarily unhinged by hard and continuous
mental application preceding his Con
ference examinations. Diligent search
has been made in Chnrleston and other
places, but there is no news ol' him
whatever. His many noble qualities
of head and heart have endeared him
to the people of Sumter, win? earnestly
hope that he may be safe, and soon re
turn to his work here.-Sumter Herald.
Mr. Kelly was formerly pastor of thc
Townville Circuit, in this County, and
his many friends in this section will
read with sorrow the above paragraph.
Tlu? Seneca correspondent of the
Kcoirce Courier, under dat*' of the 27th
ult., says : "After a severe illness, ex
tending through several months, Mrs.
C. W. Moore died early Friday morn
ing. Funeral services were conducted
Saturday by Hov. W. S. Haunter at the
Presbyterian Church, ?ml the inter
ment took place ?it the cemetery here.
Several years ago, as Miss Nora Rob
erts, Mrs. Moore assisted Prof. Moore
in a school here. Prof.and Mrs. Moore
'save spent a good part of their married
life in Seneca. Mrs. Mooro leaves four
children-two girls, Misses Dana and
Wyona, and two boys, T..I. ?md Worth.
Mrs. Keys, of Anderson, was with her
sister, Mrs. Moore, during the hist days
of her illness, and another sister, Miss
Kebe Ko her ts, came to attend the
funeral. Mrs. Moore had many friends,
who feel much sympathy for Prof,
Moore and the other me m her.* of the
family/' The deceased was a daugh
ter of the late Col. T. J. Kobeits, and
has many friends in Anderson who will
regret to hear of her death.

?md killel, charlie Creswell, another
negro, age about 20, at si frolic ?it. 2
o'clock Saturday morning, and is now
in jail. Jesse Homes, negro, living on
the plantation of Mr. Perry King, 5
miles north of Anderson, invited a
number of his colored friends to a cot
ton picking Friday, to be followed by
a frolic Friday night. His guests ar
rived in lime for the frolic only. 11 ix
and Creswell were present and renew
ed ?1 dispute they had the Monday be
fore. Doth were armed willi shot
guns. A few words passed between
them when Hix presented his gun at
('roswell's breast and bred. The load
entered the center of Cres wei l's breast
about three inches below the chin, and
sotdose was ll ix that, the wadding of
the gun lodged in Creswell'? breast and
wa? seen to blaze. Notwithstanding
this, Creswell tired one shot before he
fell and expired. Au inquest was held,
but out of the entire crowd only one
witness to the killing could be obtain
ed, this was Henry Yarborough, a
negro, which stated in substance thc
facts above. Hix was arrested by
Deputies Hose and Di ningham, lie
made no effort to escape.
