I ?oin li to Enforce the Law.
Tho city authorities are enforcing the
ordinance against persons leaving their
horses and mules unsecured on the
publie square or streets of tho ri ty.
The least line, fixed by the Ordinance
is live dollars, and the Mayor instructed
the police to take charge of all unse
cured stock and have a negro to hold
them until the arrival ol' tho owner
who could then pay 25 cents to the dar
key for holding his animal or give bond
for Ids appearance before the Mayor's
Court, ft is needless to say that tin*
quarter is always paid,, rather than
take cilancos on paying ?r'5. Wo warn
our friends who arc in the habit of
leaving their stock unhitched, oven for
a few moments, to stol? it or the. polio?'
will take charge of their teams. The
present mild reminder of 25 cents will
be discontinued as soon as the public,
is notified of tho enforcement of the
ordinance, when offenders will have- to
settle nt the Mayor's Court. It is a
flood ordinance and its stringent en
orcenient is in behalf of the property
and lives of persons who may bo in the
city. Several horses were running
away on the Ripiare at one time the
other day, and a runaway team on a
crowded street or square is an exceed
ingly dangerous thing.
