dore Dewey had issued an order for
his fleet to concentrate its guns on thc
Spanish Hag ship and the signal was
obeyed with telling effect. Thc flog
ship retired. The Olympia fired an S
incli shell which raked the Reina
Maria Christina throughout her length
and CA?SC? her boilers to explode,
killing her captain and sixty men.
She drifted away on lire.
"Altogether one hundred and forty
men were killed, and about the same
number were wo"udcd. Admiral
Moutejo transferred his flag to thc
Castilla, which was sunk shortly after
ward by a storm of shot. At a quarter
of H the Olympia signalled to cease
firing. The Americana were exhaust
ed, having been at quarters since 10
o'eloek on thc previous night.
"A conference of captains was held
and it was found that not ono had
been killed, but that several had been
slightly wounded by splinters. Two
torpedo launches attacked thc Olympia.
Tho shells from her big guns were
j unable to strike so small an object,
I but a hail of (i-pouudcr shells sank thc
leading launch, nil on board being
killed. The other launch was beached
with twelve shot holes, and the boat
was covered with blood.

Thc first, instalment of recruits is
coming in rapidly. One hundred ar
rived here to-day and information of
the recruiting officers is to the effect
that al! the recruits required will be
obtained in a comparatively short
lime.
Col. William K. Wolborn, tho
aged ?at'uer of A. C. Wolborn, of this
city, was married on the 21st of April
to Harriet N andi ver, of Habersham
Countv, Georgia. Colonel Wolborn is
81 years old and his bride is 45. His
son, A. C. Welburn, did not know of
the ceremony until yesterday. Colo
nel Welborn lives on Tugaloo Uiver,
io Oconec County, and bas a number
