The Fendteton stock exhibition comes off to-day (Thursday). Quite a large number of improved horses and colts wilt be exhibited, and alno numerous herds of registered cattle. In addition to these attractions, Ex-Governor Perry will deliver an address before the Pen dleton Farmers' Association. Great preparations have boen made for the occasion, and a most interesting exhibi tion may be expected. Two years ago Mr. W. W. Russell stated in private conversation and in his publio speeches that he w*s a 'rue Dem ocrat-that he was os mach opposed to vho Republican party aa any man !n the State, and that if the Republicans at tempted to run a ticket he would come b?o.k to tho D?mocratie party, and work earnestly for its success. Now the con ditions have been fulfilled which Mr. Russell stated would bring him back io the D?mocratie party. The Republicans have nominated presidential'electors and a State ticket. Mr. Russel ? ii nominated ns ono of the presiden'fal ..lectors. His frh :Js aro now watching his actions with anxious solicitude. There are many of them who believe that ia 1882 he was mistaken in judgment, but honest and sincere in bis statements and promises. Tho tlnrj bas now come which wilt provo whether ho spoke truthfully when be promised to como back to tho Democratic party if the Republicans nominated a ticket, lt will also provo whether or not Mr. Russell was siu???o when bo stated that ho. hoi na sympathy with ibo : Republicans. Will ho run now as a Republican Elec tor ? Wo shall bo greatly disappointed if be docs,, for after the speeches he made two years ago he cannot honorably do so. We will, however, not have to wait lang to decide, for J f be declines he will have to do so promptly. I f be does not declino, bo will have to go back upon his promises two years ago, and will prove himself an associate and compan ion of tho J?g-end of tho Republican party in thia State. A Modern Gretna Oreen, ;,, 1 As tho law iu thia State forbids the issuance of a marriage license to a couple where one of them is under age and . objection ia raised thereto from paternal \ sources, it'is becoming quito the style for youthful coaplcs in this section to flee to South Carolina and have the bans pro? ! claimed. Tho Columbia Register, of last Fri Jay, says t Thc State Executive Committee of the Republican party met at the PoatofBce building last night. A sentinel was stationed at the Main Street entrance to the building who was instructed not to admit any one who did not bear the stamp of o true blue Republican or who was not of their friends, tho Indepen dents. The door was locked and unlock ed as occasion required. The partici pants in the meeting were pledged to secrecy except as to those matters which were desired to be made public. Ora tions were frequently delivered during the session of the committee, but tbey sounded only as a mumble of words to the reporters who hung on the railiogs to the rear of tho building. Thc platform and address of the com mittee to tho Republicans and Indepen dents will be prepared by a sub-commit tee. J. Hendrix McLan? was present, en gineering the interests of the Independ ents, who failed to accomplish anything under the name of Grcenbackers in 1882, and whose ranks to-day are only of strength in the imagination. But the Independents have managed to make the National Republican Committee believe that they are "some pumpkins," and hence the State Committee have been compelled to give them recognition, os will be seen by tho fusion in tho follow ing Electoral ticket : Electors at largo-Dr. W. The Abbeville Pren and Banner pub lishes a circular letter from Lcm Quiliu which was sent to certain persono in that county urging the negroes to nelie?. I NEW YORK, October 6-2 a. m.-An- 1 other letter referring to the Mulligan business has come to light. In 1880 Blaine believed he bad a fair chance to i secure the Presidential nomination in i spite of the Stalwart scheme to rc nomi- I nate Gen. Grant. It Is well known that ! he laid his plans to break the Grant j delegations from Now York and Penn- < sylvania. He succeeded in doing sn, and then began to cast his anchor to windward ! preparatory to his leading, as he believed no would, the grand old party in the Presidential campaign. It was rumored at that timo, and the rumor was renewed early in this year's campaign, that he bad made attempts to secure bia letters.which remained in the bands of James Mulligan. The following letter from Warren Fisher, of wbioh h fae eimile copy will be published in the World to-morrow morn ing, proves that these rumors were true : "i ii April or May cf 1880, Blaine sent word to have me meet bim at the Fifth Avenue Hotel. . He then authorized me to get the letters from Mulligan, pay 910,000 if I could not get them for less, and thea wanted Mr. Mulligan and my coif to go to Europe and remain until after the election, all at his expense. Mr. Mulligan declined the offer. He said BU?ac had stolen bia. leticia - ?a Washington and ha nay*? jdjQnl<I have what.he hold at any price. Your?, dee., WARREN FISHER. Windsor, Vt, Joly 12,1884." Hanged And Yet Alive* LITTLE ROOK, ABK., September 80. Particulars of tho execution of Joe Bo ?;ard at Lonoke, on tbo 27th of August, or assault on the eleven-year-old daugh ter of & farmer named Rhea, have already been given. Mr. George Sibley, a lead ing lawyer of Lonoke County, who was appointed by tbo court to defend the negro,io howie this city. He reporta positively that although the negro waa suspended in the air forty minutes and waa pronounced dead, he is alive to-day. Tho negro was raised near Des Are., in Prairie County, and after the execution bis body was delivered to his father, who ?tarted lo a wagon with the corpse for bis home. Before proceeding far the old man was Dearly frightened out of his wits by hearing a groan from the Hps of hts ton. One of hts .-companions poured some whisky down the throat of the supposed cerpse. and io less than an boar Joe Bogara bad opened his eyes, and h? the time his father's homo in Prairie County was reached he waa able to get ont of the wagon without -help. Sheriff Reinhart of Prairie County, according to Sibley's ?tory, first heard that Bogara had return ed to Ufo from some negroes, who wished him to go and arrest him.. Sibley says Regard's relatives have secreted bim and bave asked Sibloy for hi? legal opinion ss lo whether the man can bo banged again, having once paid the penalty of the law. ' < "SUCCESS IS IK TUE AIR." ConkUng Predicts that Cleveland Will Carry New York. NEW YORK, October 2.-Rosco? Conklim,, who koowa New York politics EB well as any roan in the country, said yesterday : "The best judges in New York City do not (bink Huller will poll 12,000 votes there, and it in doubtful if be gets 20,000 in the whele Empire State. Even this vote subtracted from tho Dem ocratic numbers seems disastrous at first eight, but closer considcrstiou shows that throughout the Republican canvass thus far one factor has not been taken into account. This unspoken element which is to play so prominent a part in the campaign is tho disaffected Stalwart element, which ia better defiued in New York than elsewhere, and which will un doubtedly overcome all effort that can bo made by the Republicans for gaining tbe Empire State to Blaine's support. It is also very probable in New York, and almost unquestionable in Massachu setts, that the independent Republicans will by far exceed toy addition that the Irish-American elemento may give Blaine and Logan in tl-.oso States, and considering these fads, there are no ressons why Cleveland will not carry New York, provided that State does not Sive Blaine a stronger vote than it did lai field, which is cut ot the question at this era of affairs." Tho reports from thc great Indepen dent meeting in Boston lost night ?how bow deep the disaffection is there. One opinion is quoted here to day with great satisfaction, namely, that of Dr. James Freeman Clarke, one of Bolton's bright est, intelligent lights, who said : "1 re cently visited < io vernor Cleveland in Albany, and spent an hour with him alone in his private room. Hs talked with simplicity and freedom, with a man ner which carried conviction of ifs truth fulness. He did uot pretend that he had not done wrong. From what he said I was satified that no one suffered more than himself from his past errors and I was convinced that no had lefl them behind. Rut I gathered this not from any formal confession or profession, but from thc depth of conviction with which be spoke." The Jte/nt?lican said : ''Roscoe Conk ling is thc man over all the New York Stalwarts, and all of the work done during thc campaign will be under his direction. It was ju a the other night that a number of influential Boston and New York Stalwarts held a meeting in Now York. Tt was then decided to jire pnro au address, whichJia^-bc&Tr finished and which will be passed nlong tho lines from thc Atlantic to the Mississippi, and Circulated lu every place where il will do the most good." Matters arc booming al headquarters, and numey is pouring in. Within the last fortnight a wonderful change hos como over the spirit with which the Eublic seems to look at National politics, democratic success seems to be in the air. A dozen men with whom I have talked to day say that their doubts of two weeks ago have been entirely cleared away, nnd they nre now Hire of Cleve land's election.
