The many friends and relatives of Mr,
William C. MaFall, a former resident of

which occurred at Plckens ?> H. on last
Sunday, at th? residenco of hi? brother,

Texas, where he has resided until two
weeks ago, bia health failing, he returned
to bia natlv? State, He waa a gallant
aoldior of the Confederacy during the
late war, being a member of Company
"C," Palmetto Sharpshooters, Jenkins'
Brigade, and could always be dopended
upon when danger was to be met, or a
friend needed sympathy or help. The
writer of this knew him intimately
during the greater portion of bl? life, and

It has been rumored through the country
that I have upon oath claimed cotton in
case of David Callaham vs. my son, Jehu
B. Saylors, that belonged to bim, and that
I have upon another occasion sworn to
cotton belonging to him to prevent him
from paylug a debt dna to Bleckley, Brown
& Co. Neither of these reports is true.
The first named case was tried before R. N.
Wright, Esq., bat I was never sworn upon
it at jill, s- will =ppear ftom tba following
statement of the Trial Justice himself :
David Callaham, Plaintiff, ) Money demand
vs, f on Note, dated
JohnB. Baylors.Defenda't. J 24th Oct, 1875.
This case wes issued upon before me, and
tried the 29th Nov., 1678. Execution was
issued, and P. H. Strickland deputised by
mo, and he levied npon a lot of cotton at
J. J. Robinson's gin. After P. H. Strick
land levied npon th? cotton, he came and
told me that J- J. ?lobins?n claimed p?ri
of the cotton, and Mrs. Saylors and Jim
Saylors, and I told Strickland to let the
cotton alone. Mrs. Saylors never made
any oath before me in regard to the cotton,
for I was satisfied with the statement that
John J. Robinson pave me, and Mrs. Say
lors never had anything to do with it be
fore me. This Ii taken from my book.
27th August, 1883
R. N. WaiOHT.
The second is likewise false. I have
never claimed anything that did not belong
to me. The cotton I claimed last year was
mine, and was due to Q. W. McGee A
Son ; but under an arrangement I was per
mitted to keep the same and sell it to ena
ble me to make the present crop. Mr.
