The Athens, Ga., Banner- Watchman, of
tho 14th inst., says : "Columbus Ward
law was yealorday admittod to tho bar at
Clarke Superior Court, having stood a
highly creditablo examination. This
young man starts out under bright aus
pices, and wo predict for him a brilliant
career." We are glad to hear that Mr
Wardlaw bas been admitted to tho bar,
and wish him unbounded success.
Mrs. John A. Callahan died quito sud
denly at ber home in Varenncs township
last Friday night. Sho was apparently
in hor usual health uutil afterdark, when
abc was attacked with cramp colic, which
causod ber death in three or four boure.
Shu leaves a husband and three little chil
dren to mourn ber death. Hfar remains
were interred in tho First Creek Church
yard Saturday afternoon, Rev. B. Hays
conducting the funeral services.
Tho Anderson Baptist. Sunday School

Columbia is arranging to have a Fire
man's Tournament on tho 18th and 19th
of June. It will bo a grand affair. One
thousand dollars in prizes will be distri
buted to tho winnora. Firemen from all
sections of tho State and perhaps from
other States will enter the contest. Re
duced rates of faro on all the railroads
leading into tho city have been secured.

Mr. William Landrum, once a resident
of this County, died a few days since at
tho residence of his uleco, Mrs. O. W.
Richardson. In Athens, Ga. Mr. Lan
drum was well known in this County,
and has many friends here who will re
gret to hoar of his death. Ho was a
brother of tho lato Mr. Geo. Landrum, a
leading member of the bar at Edgefleld,
and of Morgan Landrum, of Florida, aud
Madison Landrum, of Louisiana, mem
bore of Congress.
The Commencement Exorcises of the
Anderson Female Seminary will take
placo on Friday, t?th of June proximo.
Hon. James Farrow, of Laurens, will de
liver an address on the occasion. The
Seminary, which is now recognized as
ono of the leading femalo schools of the
State, is cloaiug a very successful session,
and its Commencement Exercises will
no doubt be witnessed by a largo crowd.

Mrs. Chapin's visit to Anderson will

She has thoroughly aroused our ladles,

membered, and wherever she goos she
