Mr. Henry Croce, of Gainesville, Ga.,

ries high. Mr. Groco ia a brother-in-law
of Mr. John H. Jones. Ho thinks An
derson's prospects aro very bright, and
has decided to locato boro. We extend
him a cordial welcome.
Hon. J. E. Boggs, of Pit-kens, paid
Audoreon a visit of a fow days last week.
Mr. Bogg? has been an ablo and efficient
representative of bis County in the House
of Representatives. Ho is a candidate for
re-election, and will doubtless bo return
ed by his constituents with au increased
majority, as a tribute to his past service.
In addition to bis interest iu politics, Mr.
Bogga is ono of tho leading lawyers at
tho Pickens Bar.
Walhalla Courier : "The Perry Brothers
have received eight knitting machines
for their stocking factory in Walhalla,
which are hoing placed in position, ready
to commence work about the first of May.
Tho capacity of each of tboso machines is
about four to five- dozen stockings per
day. This ?will bo a new and important
industry for this section of country, and
we hope it will provo profitable to tho
young men who havo mado this venture
in manufacturing in our midst."
In company with our young friend,
Willie Crayton, wc took a horseback ride
late Tuesday afternoon out to theGen
orosteo Stock Farm. Wo arrived thore
just aa thc big herd of cattle were being
stabled for tho night. Notwithstanding
the In ton 033 of tho hour and our limited
tinto, wo could not resist the opportunity
of going through the stables and looking
at the fino cattle. It is a sight worth
walking miles to sec. At some future
timo wo propose telling our readers
something about this enterprise.
Our Pickens frionds aro anxious for the
Savannah Valley Railroad to be extend
ed to that place. The Sentinel, of last
woek, sayB : "Should the Savannah Val
ley Railroad bo extended to this place, it
is evident that Liberty Station and town
ship will make an earnest effort to have
the road extended via that place. The
question is now being quietly agitated,
and the friends of tho movemont claim
that tho road via that piaeo wouid be
shorter and develop e. bettor section of
country than it weald via Baslay Sta
tiou."
Un last Saturday afternojn i number of
citizens gathered at Mr. E. B. Murray's
fish pond in the city to soe tho now steam
firo engine, "Pioneer," recently purchased
by the City Council, tested. Dr. lt. P.
Divvor was in charge of the engine, and
soon bad it properly fired up, but finding
thot the whistle and some other parts were
off, the test wa? delayed until he could
procure others from his machine shop.
Soon after his return steam was raised,
and tho stream of water started. Owing
io air leaks, however, thc stream dh* not
reach near the height which was expect
ed-tho stream only going some fifty feet
In the air. With a llttlo experienco we
have no donbt the engino will provo effi
cient. Dr. Dlvver will thoroughly over
haul the various parts of the ongine, and
put it in first-class order. AsitBtantls now,
the engine will throw a stream to the top
of any bouse in Anderson.
