A dispatch to tho Charleston Newt and
Courier from Greenville, dated 11th Inst,
says: "Information reaohed here to-night
that Joe Lindsay, a jeweller, committed
suicido at Piedmont to-day by shooting
himself twice in the breast with a pistol.
The cause and particulars have not yet
been ascertained. The deceased leaves a
wlfo and children who are in Spartanburg."
Mrs. Margaret Parker, w ife of Mr. J. P.
Parker, died at her residence in Martin
township on last Monday with pneumonia.
She was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist
Church, where her remains were interred
on Tuesday. She leaves a husband and
fivo children to mourn her death. She wac
au estimable lady, and her death is regret
ted by a host of friends and relatives.

'Ibo Anderson Female Seminary is now
in a more prosperous condition than it has
been at any time since its beginning. The
roll of pupils number one bandred and
twenty-four, twenty-five of whom are
boarding with the Principal, and now pu
pils ore boing added almost every week.
The Seminary is an honor to Anderson,
and its prosperity is very gratifying to our
citisens.
A negro boy, while wrestling with a com
panion on Depot street Ust Saturday night,
got bis arm broken jost below tbs elbow;
The bone protruded through the flesh, and
a portion of it had to bo sawn off by a phy
sician. This is the second accident that has
resulted from wrestling in this city recent
ly, ?nd we think it is time now that the
boya were learning that it is a dangerous
amusement.
Mr. D. M. Simpson, of Rock Mills town
ship, died at his residence on Monday night,
the 11th inst., from the effects of a cancer
from which he has DU Tiered for mar y years.
Mr. Simpson was a bachelor of over sixty
five years of age. He was a good citizen,
and highly respected by a large circle of
friends and acquaintances. Hi? remains
were interred at Roberts Church cemetery
on Wednesday morning.
Mr. Thomas Hanks, an aged and highly
respected citizen of this County, died at his
homo in Martin township last Tuesdsy
morning. On Monday evening, while cat
iug puppcr, he was stricken with paralysis,
which terminated his life at 3 o'clock o.n
the following morning. Mr. Hanks was
an upright, honorable snd worthy citizen,
a kind and obliging neighbor, and in b:s
death the County has lost one of her bent
citizens. His remains wore interred on
Wednesday in the Ebenezer Churchyard.

From a passenger on the up-train of last
Tuesday we leam thst Mr. Thoa. Hsys, sn
old man wall known in this section, was
Ulled that dsy near Chsppell's Depot, on
the C. ct G. H. R., by the down passenger
train. Mr. Haya, it seems, was walking
on tbs railroad track, and being decrepit
with old ago hs was alow in getting out of
the way of the approaching train, the en
gine of whiob struck him, throwing bim to
one side and killing him instantly. Several
days prior to his death he was crossing a
trestle when a train approached him. For
tunately, the engineer noticed him and
stopped the train in order to let him cross.
For tbe past several years the old man has
had no home, and, being unable to work,
he has wandered about fror ?lace to place,
living off of the charities of the people.
Prevloua to that time he had followed the

Bridget had given the worthy lady much

thought the matter over, and finally offered

ladies the right one year in seven, when
? St. Bridget threw her arma round his ted
and exclaimed, "Arrah ! Patrick, jewel. I
daren'?, go back to the girls with such a
proposal. Make U ono year in four.'' To
which Patrick, with a gallantry doubtless
learned in Ireland^ replied : "Bridget,
avcushla, squeeze nie that way again, and
I'll give you Leap Year, tho longest of tho
