At the conclusion of Col. Brown's re
marks, Col. T. W. Marlin, of Broadawav
Township was called, and in declining to

been opposed to tho Road. But I was

realize the benofits to bo derived from
having competing Railroads. Tho Au
gusta A- Knoxville has fallen into tho
hands of ono of the greatest systems of
the South. Tho Commission regulates
the freights up, but competition brings | h
them down. Thc freight? are paid bv the '
farmer, as tho merchant must add "it to
tho cost of an article, and I am sure tho
farmer would he paid back tho $10,000
in one year. Ina community like ours

except by taxation*. The courts of tho
Cnited States have vindicated the right to
build railroads by taxation. They aro
