In this paper we print a two-column ad

vertisement arc enough to commend the

best men of the County. Mr. Peoples has

The Monument recently erected hy thc
ladies of Kershaw County to the memory
of their gallant soldiers who fell in the late
war will he unveiled in Camden on next
Wednesday with imposing ceremonies.
Nearly all of the State Volant eer Troops
will be there to participate in the ceremo
nies. The C. A ti. lt. R. will ?ell tickets
on Tuesday, good to return on Thursday,
from Anderson to Columbia fur $1.1)0, and
the S. C. It. H. will run a special train from
Columbia to Camden and return on Wednes
day, the fare being about one dollar. This
will make the fare from Anderson to Cam
don and return about $2.00. A cheap trip.
Mrs. Lucy II. Picketts, the Directress for
thc Mount Vernon Association for South
Carolina, has appointed Mrs. E. II. Murray
as Directress for Anderson County to raise
funds for repairing the South Carolina room
in thc Mount Vernon mansi?n. A com
mittee, consisting of Mrs. W. W. Hum
phreys, Mrs. W. S. Ligon, Mrs. J. G. Cun
ningham, Mrs. M. I. Brock and Miss Jellie
P. Edwards, has been appointed, and upon
conference decided to have an entertain
ment lo consist of charades and music to
raise Anderson's quota to this fund. The
entertainment will doubtless he pleasant
and attract a good audience. Due notice of
the occasion will hereafter ho given.
Mr. Richard Menuett died athis residence
in Williamston township on last Friday,
after an illness of soveral months, from
consumption. Mr. Dennett was a native
of County Antrim, Ireland, having emi
grated to America some two years or more
ago and settled in this city, where he was
engaged as a workman in Mr. Wm. Mc
Gtlkin's blacksmith shop until recently.
He was a steady and industrious young
man, and during his stay herc made matty
friends, who regret his death. He was a
member of the Presbyterian Church in his
native country. After appropriate funeral
services, his remains were interred in thc
Plat Rock Churchyard on the day follow
ing his death, In thc presence of a large
concourse of friends.

in the Methodist Church this city on Fri
day and Saturday evenings next. His sub

Mau Saw in Paris." Dr. Milburn has beer

For several ?lays prior to the occasion thc
pupils ..r (he Seminary had boen rigidly
examined in the various branches of study
which they had pursued during thc session
?ml of course they, as well as tho patrons
of the school, wero looking forward to Fri
day with no little anticipation. Conse
quently hy IO o'clock a. m. on Friday the
pupils, together with quite a number of the
patrons of thc school, had assembled in the
Seminary building to hear the results of
tlie examination. Two or three hours
were consumed in the reading of these re
ports, which were listened to with marked
attention hy all present. Several of thc
elasses had attuiuud a decree of proficiency
that was remarkable, and reflected much
credit upon the Principal und his coria of
assistants, as well as upon the pupils them
selves. Thc results of the examination in
nil the classes evinced that thc pupila had
undergone a complete and thorough course
nf ins!ruction, and had made rapid progress
during thc session.
Another Interesting feature during tho
day was the display of specimens of work
of the pupils in the Fine Art Department,
These specimens, especially some of thc
pencil drawings, evinced considerable skill
in this beautiful art, and wetc much ad
mired by those who inspected them.
At 8J o'clock in the evening the people
were wending their way in crowds to the
Seminary to witness the conclusion of the
exercises of the occasion. The building
was soon tilled to its utmost capacity, and
many were not able to gain acco-.s.
The decorations of the interior and exte
rior of thc building wero elaborate and
beautiful, and under the glare of the lights
presented an attractive appearance. In the
yard were suspended a number of Chinese
lanterns, which lent additional attractions
Lo thc surroundings.
'The exercises for the evening were open
ed with prayer hy Rev..I.S. Murray. <Jen.
Ayer, the Principal, then made a few inter
esting remarks, after which the following
