Last Sunday was one of those disagree able days which frequently come in the month of March. A light fall of mow ami Meet occurred in the morning, alu-r which a cold East rain, accompanied hr considerable wind, set in and continued throughout the day. We trust that it was the last wag of Winter. We are requested tointioimce that there will be a meeting of \hfi Directors of the Anderson Fair Association, at the office of the Secretary, on Monday. 9th of April, at ll o'clock a. m., for the purpose .if attend ing to important business of the Associa tion. All ol the Directors are urged to lie present. The meeting of Anderson Division, Sons of Temperance, this evening will bean in teresting one. The election of ofllccrs for the ensuing quarter will take place, and a prominent young member or the Order will deliver an address. The meetings for several weeks past have been unusually in teresting, appropriate and eloquent ad dresses being delivered on each occasion by members of the Order. The average newspaper is now preaching its annual "corn sermon" to the farmers. A great number of converts have been made, but still there are thousands yet out of the fold. Would it not be well to send out a missionary and let him preach "corn sermons" on thc "highways and hedges" V Brother Wilson, of tho Abbeville /Vr?.< and Jianner, would bc tbe right man for the position. The first number or the South Ouolina Collegian, published monthly at Columbia by the literary societies of the South Caro lina College, with John E. Bacon, jr., ns L'dltor in chief, has made its appearance in Dur sanctum. The Collegian gives evidence 3f being ably edited, and is replete with ex cellent literary reading matter. It is pub lished in a neat pamphlet form of sixteen liages. Subscription price, $1.50 per year. Messrs. Brock A Mauldin's establishment s truly a "Gent's Emporium ? Mr. Ashmore Bryant died at his resi dence, in Brushy Creek township, on last Sunday morning, after an illness of about ten days from pneumonia. Mr. Bryant was about -.! years of age. and was an in dustrious and worthy young man. He had been a very consistent member of I'izgah Baptist Church for several years, where his remains were interred on Monday. Ile leaves a wife and two children, together with many friends and relatives, to mourn his early demise. We are glad to state that the famous mud hols on the Generara road, just beyond th? city limits, which we alluded toa few weeks ago os being in a very bad condition, IIUB hud tho attention of the County Commis sioners. The Commissioners placed the work in the hands of Mr. C. S. Beaty, win? has made a thorough and complete job of it. Besides making several other substantial and lasting improvements on the bole, Mr. Beaty deposited two hundred cart loads of rock in it. A revival has been in progress in the col ored Methodist Church during the post week. Judging from the c owd wending their way there every nig t, considerable interest is being manifested. Wc are In formed that on Thursday night an old col ored women, while going around talking to tho mourners who were kneeling at the altar, had her handkerchief and $3.50 in money stolen from her pocket by one of tho penitents^/). This is one of the most villainous thefts we have ever chronicled. The Easter services in Grace Episcopal Church on last Sunday were very interest ing and impressive. The floral decorations of the edifice presented an attractive and beautiful appearance indeed, and were much admired by those present. The Hec tor, Rev. T. F. Gadsden, preached an excel lent and appropriate sermon, taking for his theme, "Christ is risen." The singing of the choir, accompanied by Mr. L. L. Green on tho organ and Col. J. W. Trowbridge on the cornet, was equal to the occasion. The following list of letters remsin un - called for in the Anderson Postotlice, March 27: Toney Acker, Fay Anderson, ' M. J. A SiiKKr>*tioii. MB. KniTOB: We see from the announce ment In your paper ?bat Mr. Perry propo ses to come over on Sal, day next un,I give us lessons in Sulky plowing. This is a fa vor our fanners should very highly appre ciate, because it gives tu au opportunity of determining for ourselves, free of expense, the propriety of adopting a similar process of plowing our soil, provided we consider thc implement adapted to our use, and the prerequisites of such a nature and practical operation as may materially advance our farming interests. For this sacrifice on Mr. Perry's part we hope our fanners are truly thankful. Hut there are other farmers in this and adjoining Counties who are actu ally plying this improved implement ou their farms, and why not make a general call for a public trial and exhibition of skilled plowing at our County scat, ou a certain day, to which the farmers of the County shall be invited as interested wit nesses? We therefore respectfully suggest that the President or the Anderson Agri cultural Society appoint a day-say the first Tuesday in April-for a practical trial and lest i>t Sulky plowing ut Anderson, and invite all persons running Sulky ?dows, in or out of the County, to attend the meeting and exhibit actual test of their plowing skill bffore the assembled population of the County. This may cause many farmers to lose a whole day out of tlcir farms at a very busy season of thc year, tbut the time will not hu lost to anybody, if upon witnessing the exhibition it is considered a success, and only a few farmers adopt an improved method of cultivation and one hundred other.-, ur*- satisfied in their minds as to its profitable practicability, and may hereafter adopt or reject tht improvement as their interest may dictate. Trusting these sug gestions may earnestly attract the attention of (armers we await with hopeful expecta tions thc day of consummation by actual trial. MAXY FABMKB*. Wintainaton Dots. MK. KIMTOK: Wlggin's snow storm reach ed our town on last Sunday morning. Snow fell heavily fur about half an hour, hut, on account of a light rain, lt did not remain (.ii the ground. Some of our citizens have tires built in their orchards every cold night, for the pur? [?ose of protecting their fruit trees from the frost. They intend to have peaches, in spite of a late Winter. Thc Williuiuslou Malo Academy is pros pering under the efficient management of Prof. li. K. Hardin. The attendance is now about fifty, which i? a larger number than for several years previous. The late change of schedule, in regard to freight trains ou this eud of the road, is, we think, a bad one. The freight passes this point in the night, going both ways. This is very inconvenient to the employees, be sides it effectually prevents travel on the freight train. We have a Young Men's Prayer Meeting reteu'ly organized, which meets every Thursday night at the Methodist Church. The idea is a good one, and, wc think, will do much good. The guano agents say there will bc more fertilizers sold this year than ever before. There will be very little left over at this point. Several new house-, are going up in town, and prospects generally seem to be good. NOMEN.
