Osborne of this city, died on last Saturday night, after an illness of two or three days from meningitis. He was a bright boy of ten years of age. He was a member of Prof. Ligon's school, and on Monday morning the body waa escorted by the pupils of the school to the Presbyterian Church, where, after alter appropriate fu neral services, it was interred. The be reaved family have the sympathy of the community in the loss of their beloved and interesting ehihl. On last Monday our office was honored with a visit from a trio of fascinating young i ad ic... Their visit waa .?sch mi agreeable surprise, that the handsome foreman smiled, the modest reportur blushed, the unassum ing compositors made "pi," and the "Devil" -well, he run. We are always glad to re ceive vii its from young ladies. Probably if they would visit us oftener we would get use to them, ami their visits would not ( re nte such confusion. We had-almost forgot to mention that lb?young ladies were ac companied by a trio of the ugliest, but very gallant, young mon on Granite Kow. There i? a substantial ami progressivecili ten in the Toney Crewk section of this Coun ty who is very fond of fancy chickens, arel take? a great deal of interest in raiking them. Not long since a neighbor of his, knowing of his propensity for fowls, pre sented him with some hawk egg*, telling liim at the time that they were genuine Plymouth eggs. He returned inr.nj thanks to bis neighbor for the present, and imme diately placed them under a hen. in due course of time the supposed Plymouth? were hatched. The gentleman was very proud of them, and would show them to ovtry passer by. You can imagine hi? chagrin, however, when the supposed Ply mouths developed into genuine hawks. The ^gentleman is, usually, a very jovial, hearty-laughing man, but when you men tion Plymouth chickens you can't raise a smile on his handsome countenance. Treat ment <>r Moiiliifrltio. The following treatment of this terrible diseaso is sent us by a lady friend who clipped it out at Hie time of its publication and has preserved it. Our physicians are doubtless acquainted with it. as wc have known a similar treatment to prove etTIca cious in this County. The article sent is as follows : Tho following card, addressed "to tho medical profossion," is published in the Atlanta pipers by Dr. J. J. Knott, who, in answer to numerous inquries, gives a syn optical statement of his treatment of this terrible disease, thereby enabling the pro fession to employ this treatment during the nr^ent epidemic in this and adjoining States Dr. Knot states that this treatment should not be employed by any one but a skillful pbvsician, as to such this commu nication is* addressed. Persons reading it aro requested to show it to their family physicians. Papers generally are asked to copy thc card : TO VUE MEllICAL 1'ROFKSSIOX. The following treatment which lias been emplovcd by mc since the winter of lR?i; '133 with uniform success in all cases where the treatment has been instituted within twenty-four hours arter the development of the prominent symptoms : In the first place discard all ideas of this disease being an inflammatory affection of the brain and tpinat chord, saturate a flannel (folded sev eral times) with spirits of turpentine. ADPly this along the whole course of the ?pine pass over this, arter the ordinary mode of ironing, a common sad orsmootli ine iron well heated. Continue this for ten or fifteen minutes until you have well stimulated the spine. In the .meantime nive quinine in heroic doses, to be repeated every two or throe bonrs until all symp toms aro overcome. Follow each dose or ouinine with a heroic dose of bromide or potassium combined in solution with an ordinary dose of solid extract Hyoscyamns. The object of tho bromide is to control reflex action, and tho doses should be regu lated according to the head and spinal eymptoms, as this is dependant on electro lionic chargea in the periphery of the nerves : from this tho action or the nunlu* operandi of the quinine and bromide jwill be readily understood by the intelligent physician; under no circumstances OM St riv blister or opiates in the outset of this disease; avoid all cold applications to bead "when constipation exista, which is gen erally the case, use large doses of calomel every threo boura until tho bowels act freely.
