last Thursday evening repealed the much?

the Chief of Police to see to the enforcement

We hail a pleasant call on Monday from
Mr. E. R. Horton, an enterprising*young
merchant of Liberty, on tho Air Line. Ho
is a native of Williamston and established
himself in business at Liberty about three
years ago, nud is flourishing.
Mi. J. S. Murray, jr., A. M., was elected
a member of tho faculty of Furman Uni
versity at thc recent reorganization of that
Institution and assigned tho professorship
of Latin and the charge of the Preparatory
Department, hut declined lo accept.

According to previous announcement, a
number of the larmer? of Yarenne? town
ship met at Plat Hock school house on
Saturday, September 17th, 1881. and organ
ized by calling Mr. S. C. Hali to Hie chair
und appointing Mr. S. P. Talc sec retary.

present.
Col. J. W. Norris made a short, appropri
ate speech, and after some general discussion
as to thc average per cent, of thc probable
yield of the cotton crop, all agreeing that
from present indications V?rennos would
hardly make a:i average of more than thir
ty- '"'vc per cent, of a crop, the following
preamble and resolutions were adopted:
Whereas, the farmers of Yarennes town
ship have purchased largely of fertilizers
and applied to the present crop, which, hy
reason of thc drouth, will ho a very short
crop of colton and less of corn ; and whereas,
we aro indebted for guano and other neces
sary supplies with insufficient means to pay
the same out of thc growing crop, therefore
Resulted, 1st. That wc recoguize the pay
ment of all debts contracted as a high moral
duty, and will endeavor to liquidate thc
same us fur as our means will allow.
Resolved, 2nd, That we respectfully en
treat all merchants, guano manufacturera
and dealers to extend to our farmers all thc
indulgence their profits and means will
justify by modifying charges and extend
ing the time for settling up the unpaid bal
ances.
