Cul. Joshua Jameson -aid : I am hardly
prepared tn say what ought lo be done just
now. Its repeal would give th?' landowners
bettor control of Ibo labor, which I believe
would be to the interest nf the country ut
large, as the colored tenant generally is in
di, lurent und iiircless about his crop when
it is covered by a lion. All he care- for is
something to eat and as lung as he can get
that by giving a lien un his crop he doesn't
care whether he makes any thing or not,
and when bc ought tn bc at work he is
idling his time away. Ol' course this is
aguins' the interests of thc landowner.
M' ?\ G. Walson said: If only such
articles a* corn, llour, bacon, etc., were
furnished undera lion, the law would he a
good one, but us it is now operated it is
ruinous to the country. The law was orig
inally intended, us I understand it, tn se

necessary, and nothing else und unless n

number would consider it a good law, with
some amendments. Five or six are opposed
to n- repeal at all. and regard it a whole
some law, while twelve of the nil tuber think
it would bc well to let the law alone for the
present. We think it fair to presume that
the sentiment of the landowners of the en
lire county is fnirly represented h. the fore
gol ni; opinions, as the gentlemen are all
representative men. and hare not expressed
their opinions without considering the ques
tion, it should bc remembered that wc pre
sent here only the views of landowner*. Il
