"No, thank Heaven, tho boss hns slopped advertising, and?.we aro having a lovely timo of lt.". In cons?quence of the continued bad weather, farm work of every kind is very ranch bebJndhe??d; Tho farmers have not done exceeding three weeks' work since the middle of December. It appeared in thc INTKLLTOKWCBB abont four years ago, bnt will bear a second reading. "Tho only neighbor I have who is of any trouble is one who is continually borrowing my paper. He Invariably sends for lt just When I want lt myself,"-Suhicriber. That is a common complaint. Wo wish wo know how to prevent tho annoyance, bnt wo do not. Master Hartwell Ayer, son of Rev. L. M. Ayer, met with a serious accident while riding on a track at the depot on last Mon day evenlngby which both legs ?.'ere broken , below thokne?s. His injuries, though very painful and serious, are not considered dan gerous. ' The Town Connell are considering a pro position to furnish a collar for every dog returned for taxation, and to anthorire the police to Bhoot every dog found on tho streets without a collar. It wonld bo a proper thing to do, and wonld surely clear the town of worthless dogs. A Mr. Holllday, a good citizen of Green ville county, died last week after u protrac ted illness, and was buried near the An derson line. Mr. J. C. Cothrsn. of th's comity, who' acted as a pall bearer at Mr. Halliday'* burial, was himself a corns* In two or three days nrtcrwards. It is useless just now to talk to the parents of the town about keeping their boys away from the depot- The sad accident on Mon day evening will have tho desired effect for a while, but In a month or twa it will be ss bad as ever. It is a proper matter for tbs town authorities to take in hand. Mr. John R. Brlsnt, a highly respected citizen of Brushy Creek township, dropped dead on tbs evening of the 10th Inst, just as he finished burning off an old field. Re waa in good health, and ate a hearty dinner at noon. He was about 50 years old, and. loaves a wife and fire or six children. This has been an exceedingly hard winter on tha young ladies. We will, therefore, soon have the to ww. time uniform, i LU uni in? mair is imiwinfiiri'ir-OMriniTiiTiiit"'-' OK The st reams ?vero all vory high last week from the heavy rains xhst ??ll on Tuesday and Wednesday and Friday. A correspondent of the Hartwell Sun, writing about Anderdon, says: ''This town is the capital of one of the best counties in South Carolina. They hsve two essential requisites to maka Anderson the banner county of the State. First, the atock law, which bas given entire satisfaction. The people could not be induced to go back to tho old plan of fencing the crops. Tbe second essential which makes Anderson prosperous ia that it has only one railroad, which traverses the middle of the county and concentrates the whole trade at tho county site. I noticed several new stores had been built since my last visit, and tbat several others were being pushed to com pletion. They arc doing a tine business. You can sec in every quarter beautiful resi dences, a great many of them entirely new, which Is a ure sign of the prosperity of any town. Tbo mcrchonts-sV?crt that they have done a better trade this winter than at any time since the war." EDITOR: Sometime ago wo wrote a communication in tho interest of a cotton factory ot this place. We bad hoped to have seen other communications upon t his Riibjent. anrl alan editorial commenta. It may be I am mistaken as to the benefits to be derived from tho factory ir built, but be lieving to the contrary I do bespeak a care ful couaidcration on the part of our people on this subject. Will tho Board of Trade meet BUd consider this matter? Will not the town authorities give this enterprise) their attention, and make arrangements for a town meeting ? We regard thia enterprise of thc greatest moment to our Town and County. Nono are more interested than the merchants, and yet none are less inter ested than they. It will help merchandise, mechanics, trading shops, blacksmiths, brickmasons, martua-makers, churches, schools, harness shops, livery atablen, far mers and all. It will increase the popula tion of our town at least one thousand per sons, and will pay the stockholder*. . To manufacture thc colton crop at home will double its value. The want of such a saving tu our people has loug been felt. Tho want of money hos heretofore been our excuse, but it cannot avail UJ now. We have morn than sufficient money in the Town and County- unemployed for thc work contemplated. We are forced to say cotton manufactories pay ; that their goods never go ont of style; and if we fail to make it pay here, situated as wo are, In the very centre of the finest cotton fields in the Sooth, we mu t ia advance contribute our failure to a want of skill in itamanagi ment. Wo claim in point of intellect, en ergy and capacity to bo inferior to none, and wo cannot admit any such proposition. The future development of our Town, and indeed of the South, can and will bo moro readily realized through colton factories than any or all other Ulinga combined. It is the !?*sr to turn the tide in our favor. Be lieving, as I do, in tho great beneficial re sults to be derived from, this enterprise, I shall hope our people will discuss it, agita e it, hold meetings about it, think of it. cal build the factory.
