In the year 1R73, there were two negro prisoners
confined in the jail of this county, who were very
badly afflicted with that loathsome disease Syphilis.
In my official'capacity as Ordinary, I employed
Capt. C. T. Swift, then a resident of this place, to
cure Ihetu, under a contrnct, "no curt, uopay." Ho
administered to them his celebrated Syphilitic
Specific, and in a fen weeks I felt bound, under
my contract, to pay him out of thecounty treasuiy,
as'he had effected a complete and radical cure.
