teellooking tramp undertook to sauntor
carelessly Into the rtrivnto grounds of the
Galveston Onrten Verein, when tho man
nt the gate put in his veto, saving :

through a gate only half that wide.

"Now, my friend," said tho tramp, per
suasively, "you aro an American citizen,
and so am I. I know you aro proud of

The man at the gate owned up that he
was guilty to nome extent, although ho
was bothered about discovering tho rele
vancy of tho remark.
"Suppose," 8aidthe tramp, "that I waa
to tell you as cn American patriot that
I am descended from the other groat
American patriot, Gen. Benedict Arnold,
wouldn't you beg me to come in for n lit
tle while, anyhow, and sit down with
you and talk about Hancock and Gar
field ?"

feated at Chicane for tho Presidency."
"Well, I have not been defeated at

agree to stay twice as long, and do with
out the chowder and the music"
