The Georgia Stute Fair is being held in
Atlanta this week, and quite a number of our
citizens are in attendance. Thc Georgia
State Fairs arc always successful.
Tito Town Council passed two important
Ordinances on TiiASuay afternoon, which
will be found in this issue. They should
bo rend and remembered by all of our citi
zens.
The self-propelling agricultural engine on
exhibition at the Fair this week is one of
tlie wonders of the nge. It was run from
tho G. <fc C. depot to the Fair Grounds on
Saturday afternoon.
There rcninins only twelve days more in
which to work for thc State and National
tickets, and of these twelve days not an
hour should bc lost. Let everybody work,
and work with a vim.
Rev. W H. Strickland will visit First
Creek Church next Saturday and Sunday
and present, tho claims of his State Mission
work. This Church is one of the largest
in tho Saluda Association.
The hot supper given by the ladies of thc
.Baptist Church at Pendleton on Friday last
was, as we predicted it would be, a'most
enjoyable afluir. Tho gross proceeds of tho
occasion aggregated about $120.
Tho public meetings in this County ap
pointed by tho Executive Committee, and
which were published last *.veek, should bo
largely attended. Go to them, and induce
as many colored men to go with you as pos
sible.
Thc public meeting appointed hy the
County Democratic Executive Committee
nt Bowling Green will be held at Harris'
Spring, near by. Wo arc requested to ex
tend an invitation to Hopewell and Piercc
town Clubs to nttend and participate in tlie
meeting.
The County Treasurer informs us that
only about one-fourth of tho people of our
County have ns yet paid their taxes. There
is only ten days more in which to pay, and
it will be wise for all to attend to this mat
ter nt once, and thereby save tho heavy
penalty that attaches alter November 1.
In addition to the assignments announc
ed, Mr. J. G. Cliukscales, of Williamston, is
assigned to nddress tho meetings at Harris'
Spring, Slnbtown, Picrcetown and Hol
land's Store. Mr. J. S. Murray v/ill bo re
lieved of speaking nt Hall, in consequence
of an engagement to speak at " Valhalla.

Rev. Mr. Strickland, who has traveled
over all thc counties of tho State north of
Columbia this fall, says that nowhere lins
he found crops so good and thc people so
cnterprisingand thrifty as in Anderson. Hu
lins just returned from York Baptist Asso
ciation, where he raised $240.50 cash for his
work.
There will bc a very lnrge ntnount of real
estate in this County exposed to salo on
next Monday week, Salcday in November,
and persons wishing to purchnsc will have
a good opportunity of doing so. Thc prop

On last Friday night Judge T. J. Mackey
addressed a large, intelligent und select au
dience of ladies and gentlemen in the Court
House upon the political issues of the day.
Tlie address was able, polished and brist
ling with point. Thc sneaker cotnpnred the
Democratic rule with that of the Republi
cans', nn<l showed tho advantages of the
present administration lo all classes of our
citizens. The address wus scholarly, witty
and argumentative. Those who were not

The political meeting nt Anderson on
Saleday in November promises to he a
grand afluir. Col. Hn^li S. Thompson,
Judge Mackey, Hon. J. C. Sheppard, Col.
J. P. Richardson and others have been in
vited to address the meeting, and several of
them will he here. Tin; meeting comes on
the day before the election, and every citi
zen should try to give it his presence, in
order to add to the lost Haine of thc cam
paign which Ls destined on the following

Tlie County Fair.
The Thirteenth Annual Fair of thc An
derson Farmers' and Mechanics' Associa
tion opens this morning, and wc hopo wili
be as good us on former years. Wo are not
ublc to say at the hour of going to press
what amount of Interest will he manifested
in the exhibition, or how thc number of
articles will compare with previous years,
but it is certainly important to all thc in
terests of our people to sustain thc reputa
tion and churacter of our County Fair.
Wc hope there will be u largo attendance ut
the Fair to-day and to-inorru w, that what
ever falling oil* there may be in thc exhibi
tion proper may bo muslo up In th? social
reunion of our citizens gem-rally, which is
always one of the most pleasant features of
these occasions.
Tho Meeting nt Honca Path.
'flic Honea Path Democratic Club met on
Saturday umi adopted the following pream
ble and resolutions:
Whereas, the State Democratic Executive
Committee have appointed n mass meeting
of the citizens of Greenville, Laurens, Ab
beville and Anderson Counties ut this piuco
on 30th inst., to be addressed by Senator
Hampton, Gen. Youmans, Col. Cothran and
J. S. Murray, Esq. ; and, whereas, it is im
portant to the welfare of this State and of
tlie country at large, that a grand rally of
thc voters of tho above named counties,
both white and colored, he hud on that day.
Resolved, That this Club do extend a cor
dial invitation to tho ?nen, women and
children in tho counties mentioned to be
with us, to aid and encourage a cause which
all good and truo citizens should have at
heart.
Resolved, That, as this is thc only meeting
in the up-country at which Senator Hamp
ton will bo present, each member of this
Club do exert himself to make it worthy
thc cause and of tho distinguished gentle
men who will address us.
Resolved, That the stores bo closed and
work suspended on thc day of the meeting,
that all may have a chanco to "Hurrah for
Hancock and Ungood !"
