And as tho night W?IU?B deepening sitado Ixwcred above my brow, I wept o'er days When manhood's rr.ys Where brighter far than now. Thc dying emberson the hearth Give o"ut their flickering light As if to say This is the way Thy life bball closo in night. I wept aloud in anguish Boru O'ro the blight of prospects fair ; While demons laughed And eager quailed My ?cora like nectar rare. Through hell's ral halls an echo ran An a bo loud and long, As in the bowl I plunged iuy soul, In (bc might of madness strong. And lhere within that sparkling glass 1 knew the causo to lie : This all men own From zone to KOIIO Yet millions drink and die. Tho woman almost climbed over him to get to tho door and drop off, btit she wasn't ten feet away when he i hed tho door, hold up a vest buckle botween his thumb and finger and called : "Hold on-I've found it-hero it is?" Sho started on a run down a Bide street, and when tho car Btnrted up the man tramped the straw down ana hung the buckie on tho front door with tho ro mark : "It's little reward any one gets for do ing a favor, but seeing I've got tho cork screw, I'll leave this hero and sho can get it or let it go into tho treasury of the etrect car com>-.ny."-Detroit Free Pr?ts.
