The first bale of new cotton for this County was brought to town on Monday afternoon, 23rd inst., by Mr. 8. J. Browne, of Droaduwuy township, and was purchased by Messrs. Barr <fc Co., for 114 cents cash. Tho halo weighed 512 pound?, and was picked, ginned and packed on the day on which lt wss sold. The ginning and press ing was done by Messrs. W. A. Geer and Co., on new machinery which was adjusted on tho same dry, the gin having been i pur chased on Batrudoy and tho press on Mon? day. This waa quick work all around. Thia is four lays earlier than a halo of new cotton was ever sold in thia marke1 before. Three more new bales werebrougbt to town on Tuesday and ono oil Wednes day. Martin Democratic Club met at Clhtk ficalcs' Mill on last Friday afternoon, and after povidlbg for the registration of voters In tho Club was addressed by E. B. Murray, Esq., upon tho importance of thorough or ganization and work in tho pending cam paign. It was resolved to have a moss meeting of Belton, Broadaway, Honca Path and Martin To xv usn I ps .it Clayton villo on Friday, tho 3rd day of September. Cols. Aiken and Cothrnn, together with the County candidates, are requested to address tho meeting. All tho Clubs of thc County arc invited to bo present, and a pleasant day in tho way of a basket picnic is anticipated. Tho ladies are especially invited to attend. A resolution endorsing thc nomination of of Mr. Ezekiel Harris for County Commis sioner was passed. It xvos also determined to attend tho mses meeting at Anderson on the Otb of September, and CapL R. B. A. I Robinson appointed to command the moun ted procession. Tho meeting wes ~-*,'a a success. Improvements in tho management of tho Greenville & Columbia Railroad are still going bravely on, to tho gratification bf ?B Satrons and tho public generally. We tin erstand that on tho 1st September n. fine passenger train with air breaks and ail of tho conveniences and comforts for passen ?ers usually found on a firet-class road, will e put upon tho Andcrsor. Branch and Bluo Ridge Division, tho object of which ls to make close connection nt Seneca City wit? tho western bound day passenger train on the Als Lino*Road. This will greatly in crcaso tho travel over this Uno, as *t will make thc time between Charleston and At lanta, Ga., and all points west of that place, about six houre shorter that over any other route. Tho great bulk of travel between theso two points noxv goes by tho way of Augusta, but as soon as thc proposed chango ls made it will naturally change tn this line on account of thc great saving of time, which, to tho traveling public, ia always an important consideration. This will give Anderson and tho other towns on this sec tion of the O. or C. H. R. all that could be wished in the way of railroad accommoda tions. In addition to this improvement wo lea;? also that them will bo put upon tho main Uno a through night freight, which will carry a passenger coach. Tlio Williams ton Meeting. The meeting at Williamston on last Thursday was quite a success for tho pres ?nt; time of Inactivity in politics. There were from four to six hundred persons pres ent and the best of order prevailed through out the entire day. Dr. Ji. I. Epting, Pres ident of tho Williamston Club, presided 6T?* tho meeting, and after an eloquent in troductory address bc inf roduced as speakers for the morning Messrs. R. W. Simpson, E. B. Murray and E. M. Rucnur, and iii the afternoon Messrs. D. Wyatt Aiken and Jas. L.Orr. Tho speeches were good, and though | very little enthusiasm was exhibited, tho j attention was excellent. Thc result of this meeting ls bound to affect much good for tba party organization in tho Con. .-?y ns other Clubs ore already arranging for large local mass meetings.' After tho speaking, arrangements were made to form a largo mounted club to at tend tho meeting on tho Otb of September nt Anderson. Tho Oconeo Radicals. Tho Radicals of Oconeo County held an other Convention on Thurejay last, tho object of which was to fleet delegates to tho State, Congressional and Judicial Con ventions. Bill Parker, tho Radical County Chairman of Anderson County, - was in at tendance, and from a communication to thc Columbia Jlcflittcr wo learn took quito on active part in the proceedings. Tho meeting was called to order by M. H. Brice, County Chairman, and after declar ing Himself elected permanent chairman upon a motion to elect "a chairman," pro ceeded to settle tho question as to which of two contesting delegations were entitled to scats in the Convention. Thl3 was objected to by one of tho contesting delegates, who declared that If a p&rt of them wera turned out they would all go to hell together. Hero tho confusion became so great that Bryce, tho Ohairmin, was powerless to command order, and Bill Parker, from Anderson, carno forward and assumed tho chair to quell tho violence threatening, but even his. thundering voice met the same fate as the former. Still tho confusion became greater and greater, many augry negroes being on the floor at once Finally ono young and stout negro gave a blow to the appointed eergcant-at-arms, j when the two parties began, to concentrate their forces, gathering close together.
