The farmers of EdgelicUl County have or
ganized a Planters' Protective Association,
thc object of which is to extirpate and stamp
out tho illegal and dishonest trafic in seed
colton. An executive committee, consist

canvassing for members, und will offer a re
ward of one hundred dollars for proof to
convict any person or persons of violating
tho law regulating tho rale of seed cotton.
This is a wiso move on thc part of tho Edge
field farmers, and wo would be pleased to
seo similar organizations formed Sh other
counties of tho State. The trafic in seed
cotton after night hus been and is yet a
great annoyance to the farming interests
in many sections of. the State, and by all

Tho Republicans of Anderson County aro
being reorganized to vote for William lt.
Parker for tho Legislature once more.
They meet in Conventir-n'on Monday, tho
80th Inst., at this pince, to send delegates to

proceeding worthy of mention except-for
tho fact that William R. Parker, tho col
ored County Chairman, who professes to bo
a preacher, is tho most ectivo mott in stir
ring up tho organization^ after having re
peatedly expressed his disgust with tho Re
publican porty, and said positively that he
would not have anything to do with poll
tics in this campaign. Ho is a fair samplo
of Republican truthfulness. There is, how
ever, one conrolalion in this case-tho Re
publicans in this County aro not strong
enough to interest us. It is a farce for them
to attempt a fight In this County, and any
effort made to get up an excitement on tho
subject hero will be a factious and malicious
opposition to the causo of good government
on tho part of those who engaso in it. Thu
better and moro intelligent colored men aro
tired of tho useless fight. Thoy aro better
protected and more prosperous now than
they were under Republicanism, and there
fore have nu disposition to return to it.
They cannot bo made dupes of any longer.
All that Parker.can accomplish In this fight
will bo to moro thoroughly establish tho
fact that he docs not kno./ how to tell the
truth._

A party of fifteen or Blxtccn young ladies
?and gentlemen left here a few days ago
I quito early on a tour to Fort Hill. At Pen

to tho party in tho sbopo of young men

much enjoyed. On ?hey went with merry
laughter, as if a prizo were to be awarded to
thc one who modo tho loudest noise, until
presently they found themselves driving
through thc beautiful green-carpeted and
cedar-shaded lawn, on which our beloved
statesman, thc late John C. Calhoun, spent
many pleasant, hours a few years ?hice.
The plan of the well, garden, vineyard, or
chard and, in fact, all thc surroundings i
show that no poins bavo beon. spared to

which fronts tho old fort and mill tells

having its source among tho mountains and
thc scarcity of cultivated lands on its banks,
