Mrs. Albert Baker, net Miss Eliza Kay,
died very suddenly at the residence o;f her
husband, in Central, on Monday morning
lost. She was of delicate constitution, but
for several weeks immediately preceding
her death she had enjoyed unusually good
health, and on Monday morning got up as
U'jual and prepared breakfast, and partook
of tho meal with more than usual relish,
hui before ll o'clock she was a corpse, hav
ing died of hemorrhage of the lungs. Her
remains were brought to this place- ori Tues
day morning and conveyed to Mountain
Creek Church, where tbey were consigned
to their final resting place hi the graveyard
adjacent, ofter impressive funeral services.
She was an excellent lady, and hod many
relatives and friends in this County who
mourn her death.
The Columbia correspondent of the News
and Cburier sends thc following bit of hews
to that paper under date of tho 19th inst. :
"A proposition emanating from one of tho
, county chairmen of th irs Congre .?ional dis
trict has lately beeu made to the chairmen
of the other counties composing the district,
suggesting that the convention for tho third
Congressional district be held at Abbeville
on tho 8th of July. Tho matter was dis
cussed informally by o number of tho chair
men, but without agreeing npon any date
or placa for holding the convention. It baa
been suggested heit, that August will be
early enough to - nominate Congressmen,
and that Newberry, from its central loca
tion, would be tho proper place for the con
vention to meet. This idea will be presen
ted In duo time and will probably prevail."
So far as the time for holding the'conven
tion Is concertied, we agreo .entirely with
tba suggestion that lt should not bo called
to' meet earlier than August, but as to the
place of meeting wo do not favor either of
the places mentioned. Abbeville is more
central than Newberry, but Hodges is more
central than Abbeville.
