The Episcopal Church was filled to over
flowing on last Sunday morning, and the
Easter services were more than usually in
teresting and impressive. The building was
elaborately and beautifully decorated.

Tho Hartley-Den ck musical' entertain
ment in Masonio Hall on Monday evening
was not liberally patronized, though it ls
said to have been worthy of a full house.
Prof. Denck is one of the finest pianista in
the United States, and has performed before -
tho crowned heads of Europe.
At a meeting of the stockholders of the
Anderson Educational Association, (by
which the buildings and grounds of tho
Carolina Collegiate Institute ore ownc? and
controlled,) held on Monday, it was decid
ed to discontinuo tho system of co-educa
ting the sexes, as at present conducted, at
the expiration of the present year, and to
make it strictly a malo school.
The dramatic entertainment in Masonic
Hall on Thursday night last by our ama
teur troapc reflected much credit upon tho
phill and talent of those inlcrer'ed. All of
tho characters in. both pieces played were
admirably personated, and every one pres
ent was delighted with the entertainment.
Anderson can boast of como of the mest
accomplished amateur actors and actresses
in the State.
Rov. W. H. Strickland returned homo
from Charleston on Tuesday, where he has
been assisting in a special meeting in tho
First Baptist Church of that city, which
closed on Sunday night. Tho Kew* and
Courier eaya thu' tho meeting was' very Buc
ees-fu!, and that *'Mr. Strickland hos made
a fine impression on this community, and
returns to Anderson- followed by the good
wishes of many friends."

is one of the ablest preachers in thc South
Carolina Conference, and baa been connec
ted with the educational institutions of the

all of which he acquired a distinguished
reputation. Ho is a good speaker and an
Instructive and entertaining preacher.''

inent citizen ?nd leading merchant of this
place, bat who removed to Atlanta, Ga.,
nine or ten yean ago, and four or five years
subsequently to Greenville, 8. 0., died lb
the latter place on Sunday last after an Ill
ness of several weeks. Mr. Keen pos
sessed rare business qualifications, and at
oho time was the principal of the leading
mercantile firm of Anderson. He bad
many friends In our midst whose hearts
wero saddened by the news of his death.

mittee met pcrsuant to the call of the Coun
ty Chairman, The roll of members was
called and a quorum ascertained to be pres
ent.
. . The Chairman announced the Committee
ready for business, and on motion of Col.
R. W. Simpson a r?solution was adopted
requesting tho Democratic Clubs of the
County to meet on Saturday, the 8th day of
Mw/ next, at 2 o'clock p. m., at the places
indicated below, for the purpose of electing
offlcers for the ensuing term and delegates
to tho County Convention on tfio basis of
one delegate for every twenty-five memben.

On motion, the citizens of Fiercctown
were granted permission to organize a new
Democratic Club at that point.
