A Wonderful Kentuckian, At Moorefield AU interview WAS hac with John Robinson, a clever farmer whose wi/o is a cousin to a remarknbh character whoso D~mo is Reuben Field: -"Professor Fields, the Seventh Won der,," ho calls himself-and truly he is r wonder, a show, a study, a "What is it?' "Profeiraor" fields waa born near Wyo ming, Rath County, twenty-eight yean ago, and never wont to school but ont day in his life, and on that ..ty carried with him nu old iea-kettle filled witt snakes caught with his own bands, and when the teacher attempted to drag hin; in the schoolroom, threw the snakes nt him ono by ono from tho kettle until he broke up the school fir that dav, and never returned agaiu. He heartily con demned tho idea of schools and school children all bia day up to the present, nnd now rebukes all school children foi going, saying that they are "fools foi going to school tn IOBO what little knowl edge they inherited by nature." Field? glories in tho possession of a natural gift -that of being a mathematician whose equal is unparalleled, in fact, he ia tho wonder of tho littlo portion of the world and tho few rural scientist with whom ho ha* como in contact. It is positively assorted by those who have known him from childhood that ho doseu't know a figure or even the numbers on n clock dial, or even a lotter of the alphabet, and yet no can instantly had correctly com pute any mathematical problem read aloud to bim, even giving tho answer to the lowest decimal fraction. He has been tried on as much as two pages of invoice on foolscap, of mercantile goods of overy description, nnd on the last Hue of goods and figures being read iiiBiantiy gave tho right answer, and even com* menced nt tho last lino and in reverse rotntion repeated every word, article and figure of the entlro invoice to n dot. He never works at any other trado than that of running np invoices and making other mathematical calculations. Tho "Professor," bezides being pos sessed of an unr.ecn and -unaccountable world of figures in his mind and tho koy to all mathematical problems, tho solv ing of which requires but an instanta neous flash through tho mind, accom panied by a quick closing of the eyes and twitching of tho muscles of the face ns in great agony momentarily, also carries In his mind a perpetual and nevor-varying clock dial and can give tho correct "sun" time to a second, and can also tell tho timo to a second by a watch in nnotbor pocket, never looking at a watch or clock. He frequently te?B persons the difference between their time nn'V that of the sun. He has fre quently been asked tho timo by clocks nnd watches out of sight, and bas novcr "Professor" n'as so nonplussed conduct ors by telling them tho exact time by the watches in their pockets, and in his pe culiar manner of interesting them in hi; unique history, that ho has frequent ly made almost tho entire trip from Kentucky to Kansas, where bis mother now resides, free of chargo, tho conduct ors becoming so interested in him that they would almost invariably forget to collect his fare. Fields claims that ho ia a sealed Seventh Wonder, in the pos session of a gift which could be easily taken away from him, and through fear therefore refuses to receive medical treatment for epilepsy, with which ho is afflicted, but sometimes speaks of being willing to roceivo treatment from a "faith" doctor with whom he claims to be acquainted, and who lives IQ the mountains of Kentucky. Fields !a also possessed of another -gift almost equally marvelous, viz: that of handling snakes of all kinds, includ ing tho rattle, tho copperhead, garter, racer, eta, and never was known to have been bitten. He also bolds power over all ferocious dogs-having gono once into the yard of James Tipton, at Moore field, where a most ferocious, bull-dog hold away unmolested. The dog roared up on him and played with bim as be had novcr ?one with any member even of the home family. He baa also been known to haye fondled with the beela and hind legs of bad kicking horses and mules, and never been. burt. "Pro fessor" Fields is a bachelor who never in tends to marry, weighs 200 pounds, luis red whiskers, and hos a small, "grey ey? of destiny," and Bays he can give no ex planation of his marvelous gift, save that it is a gift similar to that of B?iu? Tom. Fields is naturally of a sullen disposition, refuses to bo interviewed, for fear others will learn of him, ?aldor? permitting an acquaintance to bo formed with .< any. one. Any smell perceptible to tho sense will bo absorbed ny flour. Avoid damp cellars or lofts where a free circulation of air cannot be obtained. Keep in a cool, dry, airy room, and not exposed to a freezing temperatura nor to intense Bummer, or artificial heat for any length of time above 70? or 76? Fahr. It should not como in contact with grain or other substances which aro liable to heat. Flour should be Biftcd and the particles thoroughly disintegrated and then warmed beforo baking. This treat ment improve tho color and baking properties of the dough. ONE BENEFIT FROM POVERTY.--The misfortunes of war, culminating in tho joss of servants, bas devolved on tho daughters in Southern families much of tho hard work formerly done by the slaves, and they havo become more prac tical women than they could ever nave been,if reared with a servant at their command, ready at all times to do their bidding. In ail that pertains to tho art of housekeeping, from tho kitchen to the garret, the girls of to day are better edu cated Ibnn their mothers wore. They have learned to work for themselves, and for the families of which they aro mem bers. Cultivated in mind, muscles sud morals, beautiful in form and feature, modest in speech and apparel, the South I ern girls aro tho peers of any the world can produce. - Mr. JoiTorson Davin wroto a letter regretting his Inability to attond tho ro oont re-union, at Sallsuury, N.
