will likely celebrate their anniversary by a
public meeting, at which addresses will bc

tional Medical Convention, which convened
in Atlanta on Tuesday morning.

A goodly number of country people were
in town, but os soon as their trading was

There was a light frost in this community
on Saturday morning last which damaged
tho Irish potatoes and other tender garden
plants tn gardens situated In low grounds.
C. A. Reed, Agent, continues to do a large
hat trade. He keeps a large and well assor
ted stock, und bia prices aro lower than any
retail prices anywhere. .
Our citizens made up a purse of $33 last
week for the Waltcrboro suffers, to which
was added the (.um of $25 by Hiram bodge,
A. F. M., making a total of $53 sent from
Anderson.

We aro gratified to learn that Mr. J. P.
Reed, Jr., a son of Judge Reed of this place,
bas taken two medals at the Kenmore High

flourishing academies of learning In the
South, and its prizes are a very high com

The unveiling of tho Confederate Monu
ment in Columbia on Tuesday noxt, ISth

to every Carolinian, and every section of

Mr. D. A. Elrod, a progresai?'c and enter
prising fumier of the Sandy Springs neigh
borhood, paid us a visit on Saturday, and
gave us nome Information that will doubt

readers, viz : the cause of the blindstaggers
among horses and how it can bo prevented.
He says that this discaso which has been so
fatal among the horses in this and adjoining
counties during the past winter, is caused
by a green Uidddj on corn, generally found
on the small end of the ear, but some times
on other parts of it. This mold ls very
poisonous, and hi generally more plentiful
after a dry year, or in now ground corn.

Mr. Elrod says that be has observed this
rule closely for many years, as also have
others of his acquaintance with like results,

the purpose of reorganizing Belton Division,

neighborhood who had assembled to hear

outgrowth of the picnic of Wllliamstc-n
Division, which was hela at Belton on last
Saturday, and wo trust ls tho beginning of
a flourishing new Division of workers in
the temperance cause.
A representative of tho INTELLIGENCER,
in company with several members of An
derson Division, attended the picnic at Bel
ton on last Saturday, under the auspices of
Williamston Division, and which was quite
a success. About 0 o'clock a very good
crowd had assembled, and a procession of
Sons of Temperance was formed at McGee's
Hotel and marched to the grove near the
Presbyterian Church, where a neat stand
and plenty of seats had been arranged.
After arriving at the stand it was decided to
have the speaking in tho Church. The
building was crowded to its utmost capaci
ty, and many could not get in. Interesting
and appropriate speeches were made by
Kev. W. H. Strickland, Mr. G. F. Tolly
and Dr. <V. C. Brown. The speakers han
dled the subject of temperance ably, which
will no doubt result in much good to tho
cause in thnt section. After dinner, a ma
jority of the crowd re-asscrablcd in the
Church, when steps were taken to revive
Belton Division, which had some time
since suspended ctierations. The fnir ladies
of Williumston and Belton were in atten
dance in goodly numbers, and by their
graceful forms and charming smiles added
much to the pleasures of the day.
The Corner Stone.
The laying of thc conter stone of the new
Presbyterian Church on next Saturday
promises to be an occasion of unusual in
terest. The ceretionies will be perfonned
by thc Grand Lodge A. F. M. of this State,
the Most Worshipful Grand Master, or his
deputy, Gen. W. W. Humphreys, ofllciat
Ing. A procession will bo formed itt the
following onler at the Masonic Hall, t?nd
will move promptly at 10 o'clock, proceed
ing directly to the place where tho ceremo
n'es are to bc performed :

Officers of the Groud Lodge.
The ceremonies will be opened with
prayer and singing, followed by one or two
short nddrc-sses appropriate to the occasion
and thc performance of certain rites usual
on such occasions. The whole service will
consume about two hours' time, and we
trust our citizens generally will turn out.
It will afford many of our young people
their first opportunity of witnessing such
a sight.
