Sullivan & Co. are tho agents, is one of thc best fertilizers manufactured. Jacob Harria?. Thc readers of the IKTEIXIORMCSB will re gret to learn that "Ray. .T?cob Burriss, who has been ill for several months, died at his nrelflnnon ni?ar Anderson on l??t Taesdsy evening. Mr. Burriss was in hts elgbty ?Ighth year at the time of hts death, and had always resided In this County, where he has a very large and influential family connection. Mr. Burriss was one of tho oldest Baptist Ministers in the State, and has always manifested a very deep intercut In thc affairs of his denomination, always attending Its associational meetings, and participating actively in its deliberations. Mr. Burris? was a vory active aud energetic man, which trnits, combined with good judgment and prudence, enabled him to amass a large and valuable property. He has not been actively engaged In the minis try for a number of years,' but as tho lead ing member or tho old Salem Church, Le accomplished within tho past few years a great work In tho erection of a handsomo and commodious brick house of worship, to which ho contributed most liberally of his abundant means. He was a kind and benevolent neighbor, an nm'nblo and pleas ant companion, and a pious Christian. At this timo wo cannot present a full sketch ol bis lifo, which has extended through such a long period of eventful years. Ho was one of the connecting links between a genera tion which is now nearly extinct and oui own timo. By his death Borrow is carried to tho hearts of hundreds or relatives and friends. Brown moved that a com mittce of one from each township bo up pointed to consider and report ujwn all res olutions which should bc brought befor the meeting. Pending the consideration of tho r?solu lion Col. E. M. Bucker addressed the meet ing und urged the Importance of a co mb ii m tion of tho agricultural interests of th country'to resist the encroachments of mc nopoiista, and secure for tho farmer thu consideration and protection to which-b is entitled. During his speech Col. Rucko waa frequently cheered, and at its conclu sion Maj. GcorgoW. Maret spoke in favo of tho resolution, taking thc ground thu ibo present prices of fertilizers would b ruinous to tho?o who use them, and thc tho meeting should do something to eecur unity of action among the farmers of tlii and surrounding counties. The proceedings were ordered to be published in tho Ander son, Columbia and Charleston papers, and thu meeting adjourned Bubjcct to the call of thc Chairman. Tho Hall was crowded, and thc uttermost enthusiasm prevailed. It waa evident from the sentiment manifested throughout tho County that tho people did not intend to usc phosphates to any extent without tho agreement in tho Augusta Convention was cancelled. If tho companies aro wiso they will restore their prices for colton option to bast year's rates, for if they do not they will find that a strong influence will bo brought to bear to secure 8tate mnuufacturo, and then they will; huvo to sell for much less than they have dono heretofore. Tho meet ing was temperate but determined, and it will no doubt have a beneficial effect. Tin? J.nwti of Kent. Mn. EDITOR: A little sad experience, within the last few weeks, ho J convinced uio that Bouic improvement on our rent luws is absolutely essential to thc futuro prosperity of our country. Under thc slave labor system tho question was ono of minor importance, but under the present changed condition of our lahor syatem, becomes a question of the highest importun?e, that tho mutual rights and duties of tho. Un ant sys tem should be so plain, so simple, so effec tive and so cheap, that a resort to litigation would scarcely ever bc necessary. In order to attain thu end, thc first step that ought to bo taken by the Legislature ia to fltcud the jurisdiction of Trial Justices so as to emhrace'all farm rents, even to tho sum of | five hundred dollars, or moro if necessary. To do thia it would ho necessary to make said courts a court o? record, whore all rent and lubor contracta fon each township should be filed. Tho propriety of said change can be seen almost at a glanco. Tako a case : A renter, in whom the land lord had the utmost confidence, on tho plea of getting a better price for bia cotton, takos his entire crop to Greenville, Bella cut, puts his money in his pocket and runa away. There is still a portion of tho crop left, the| corn, cotton seed, &c, but it had been re moved to another farm than tho one on which the crop was grown, with numerous smaller creditors than tho landlord. Tho question at onco arises, docs thc removal of I the crop from the farra on which it was j grown abate or modify one iota of the land lord's rights? There ia another question of perhaps far I greater magnitude, in tho caso supposed, which is, does the homestead apply, and, if | so, to what extent? These and other ques tions v;7iich would naturally suggest thoni ?elves, in the cuse supposed, demands thorough investigation, and the next Legis lature, if the late act does not cover the groand, should make tho necessary amend ments.
