There waa a meeting of the Anderson Bar
at the office of Maj. B. F. Whltner on
Wednesday morning, for. the purpose of
advising the Sheriff elect and the present
incumbent as to what coarse Uley should
pursue with regard.to the election compli
cation!. Gen. J. W. Harrison waa called to
the chair, and J. E. Breexealc, Esq., reques
ted to act as secretory. A committee, con
(listing of Mesara. J.' 8. Murray, A. T.
Broylesand B. F. Whltner was appointed
to look into the law, r.. d report to an ad
journed meeting. The chairman of the
meeting wm added to thc committee. The
report will probably b? submitted in a few
days. _
AHDBB?0H DEMOCRATIC CLUB.
A meeting of the Anderson Court House
Democratic Club waa held- in the Court
Rouse on Saturday afternoon, for the pur
pose of electing delegates to the County
Convention, and attending to such other
business an might come before the Club.
Thc President announced that there ware
two hundred and sixty-seven membeis In
tbe Club, and hence we were entitled to ten
delegates. An election wo? then proceeded
to. and Messrs. G. F. Tolly ,' ?. F. Whitner,
B. F. Crayton, WV Wt ?Hu.-nphreyB, E. B.
Murray. P. A. W?hlte, J. L. Tribblo, J. A.
Brock, 3. McCully and W. H. Brockman
were elected delegates, and the President was
authorized to appoint five alternates, which
he did by naming the following gentlemen :
R L. Moorhead, E. P. Earle, J. J. Baker,
A. B. Towera and James B. Moore.
Maj. Jolm 8. Moore offered a resolution
suggesting E. B. Murray, Esq., aa a suitable
person for the position of Trial Justice at
Anderson Court House, and requesting Gov
Bampton to appoint him, which was unan
imously adopted.
Dr. W. O. Browne offered a resolution
requesting Gov. Hampton to appoint Mr.
John R WilUainx Jury Commissioner for
Andean "County .'"and instructing' the dele
gates to the County Convention to urge a
tripular action upon the Convention. This
resolution waa also unanimously adopted.
Col. Hoyt was unanimously elected to
deli vor an address to thc Club at ita regular
meeting on next Friday night, after which
thc Club adjourned.
DEMOCRATIC COTTSTT CORTSSTXOM.
This body met pursuant to the call of thc
Executive Committee of Anderson County
in lita Court House cn lost Tucsdav .?t 12
o'clock m., and was called ' to order by Col.
Hoyt, the County Chairman, who briefly
stated the object of the Convention, after
which Messrs. W. W. Humphreys and R. L.
Moorhead were elected "Secretaries. The
roll of Clubs was then ca|J?d,. and delegates,
from a majority of the Clubs in the County
responded. The attendance was on unex
pectedly large one, aa there was snow from
eight to ten inches deep upon the earth, and
it was thought that it would be difficult to
secure any considerable attendance from the
County Clubs. After the roll call it waa
ascertained that a quorum was present, and
the Chairman announced the Convention
ready for business. Mr. E. B. Murray
moved that the Convention adjourn to meet
again at some time in January, which was
?greed to, and next Monday, the 8th Inst.,
at eleven o'clock a. m., fixed upon as the
tlrue for the next meeting of the Conven
tion.
The reason which induced this action of
the Convention waa that it was desirable to
have every Club in the County represented
by a full delegation. Anderson possesses a
solid Democracy, and whenever any move
is made it must bc by a united party, and
not by a portion of it. Thc members pres
ent on last Tuir.day.?id.not wish to arrogate
to themselves the risht either to act or speak
for the whole Democracy of Anderson,'and
hence they very properly adjourned to meet
again next Monday,.at which time every
delegate should endeavor to bc present, for
?ery important questions will come before
the Convention. Thc people of Anderson
County have so Car manifested both sagacity
.nd courage In the conduct of political af
fairs, and naturally the action taken by this
Convention upon tho issn <* of the present
will be looked, to with.interest at hom? and
abroad. The action, whatovcr it may be,

Every resolution or measure proposed

We regret to announce the death of Mrs.
Mfcrtln, wife of Col.: J?hn Martin, of this
County, which occurred on lout Sunday
night. Mrs. Martin waa an excellent lady,

ily wit!; many friends to lament her death.
Capt. William J. Broome, au old enc? rc
ppecud citizen of Andersen County, died
at his residence near Belton on last Monday,
and was buried, po Wednesday by thc Ma
sonic fraternity, of which ho was an acting
and influential member.- He wss sn up
right and useful-r'tizen, whose death will
be regretted by tue community in which he
lived.
There will be three eclipses of the sun
this year, .-.ll of which will be invisible in
North America. There will be two eclipse*?
of the moon, of which the total eclipse on
the 23rd of August will be visible here. We
aro to hsve uninterrupted sunshine here
during the present year, so far as it is affec
ted by tho shadows of planetary bodies.
The snow storm on last Monday blocked
railroad travel on the Blue Ridge Road
above Pendleton. The evening train was
unable to get through, and therefore re
mained -until next morning, at which time
lt returned to Belton. Several passengers,
among whom were Judge Cooke and Col!
D. Wyatt Aiken, were on the train and had
to either return next morning or wait until
the trains could get throngh.
We regret to announce the death of Mr.
John Daly, which occurred very suddenly
at the residence sf Mr. John Crews, when
he was on s visit last Monday. He died ir
about two hours after he waa taken sick
and his remains were placed to rest in tin
Presbyterian Church-yard on Wednesday
Mr. Daly moved to thia place lost year wit!:
his father, and bsd made many friends ii
his new home.
The faithfulness and earnestness of thi
Anderdon Democracy was evinced on Tues
dsy last, when so many delegate* from tin
country made their appcorouce, despite tin
inclement weather. It was wisely deter
mined, however, not to enter upon the bus
incas of the County Convention until a ful
attendance is secured. Next Monday th
Convention will re-essemble, and ever
Democratic Club ought to be fully repre
sen ted.
