The Anderson intelligencer. (Anderson Court House, S.C.) 1860-1914, May 20, 1875, Image 3
Judge Reed.?The Anderson Intelligencer
was in error in saying that Judge Reed had re?
turned with his family to Anderson, where he
would spend the summer. Judge Reed ad?
journed the Court of Common Pleas in this city
on May 5th, after a continuous session of just
three months. On May 5th he went to Ander?
son with a part of his family, remained there
two days, and returned to Orangeburg, where
he held an extra term of the court until Thurs?
day evening, the 13th. He then rejoined his
family, in Charleston. On Friday and Satur?
day he disposed of such business as was brought
before him at Chambers. To-day he will open
the Court of Common Pleas and General Ses?
sions at Orangeburg. At its close he may have
? a week's vacation, which he will spend in the
fcp-coaatry, and will then hold the summer
terms of court in Charleston, beginning on the
1st Monday in June.?News and Charier.
? Hon. George H. Pendleton puts the case
tersely thus: "The financial troubles, the
stagnation of business, the depression of all
industries, the extravagance and corruption of
the public service, jthe demoralization of the
admirastratron, the personal government of
President Grant, the third term project, the
violation of all law in the policy adopted to?
ward the Southern States as a means there-to ;
all these have filled the people with uneasiness,
and they are anxiously seeking a better state
of things."
imt % mm
? JX was stated the other day that the grass-!
noppera had been frozen out by the severity of j
the winter, but a late dispatch from St. Joseph,
Missouri, announced that -they have ""multi?
plied and grown tike magic in the past few
days," and from that point all the way out to
the 3?.ocky Mountains we hear of them in
alanaing numbers. In so rare carts of Kansas
they are said to have already done great harm,
and there seems every prospect of another
""plague" Ifke that of last year.
? TbfeNew York Tribune says editorially,
that Pierrepon t accords with Bristol's financial
views, but he is opposed to certain features of j
the reconstruction acts.
???" It is Tbuly Wonderful, the variety
and ingenuity of the conveniencies for the desk
and office?Pens of varied patterns, Inkstands
possesssing numberless advantages, Letter
Files, each one the best, Envelopes of size and
qualities infinite. It is almost bewildering to
enter the large Broad Street Store of Walker,
Evans & Cogswell, in Charleston, and see the
number of these attractions. Here you find
the largest Stationery Stock south of Balti?
more, and you only have two troubles?first,
sufficient cash; and second, the difficulty in
deciding among the many things offered, each
equally suitable to your wants.
