?T&s' Champion Intimidatob.?The TJ. S. G. seeras to understand the efficacy of a little intimidation now-a-days, and has* recently started out upon an attempt to control the newspaper press by the exercise of these tac? tics. A Washington dispatch explains the situation aa follows: The "great intimidator," as Senator Schurz called the President the othef day, is still at work. It is reported to-night that the work of intimidating the press, begun at New York, is going on vigorously. The Cincinnati limes and a number of other Western newspapers are deprived of government advertising bv orders from the White House. In his annual message the President said, speaking of this subject of intimidation, "in some places colored laborers were compelled to vote according to the wishes of their employers, and there are too many in? stances in which, when these threats were dis regarded, they were remorselessly executed by those who made them. I understand that the fifteenth amendment to the constitution was made to prevent this and a like state of things.'* People here wonder why the fifteenth amendment, ir it really forbids "intimidation" and the deprivation of employment for refusal of political support, should not protect the Mess against intimidation from the White House. A Cargo of 500 tons now on the I way to this port. This Guano gave great satis? faction in Virginia and North Carolina the past season. Circular and certificates sent on appli-1 cation. Prof. Wilson, of Baltimore, Md., says of this Guano: "By a critical examination of the analysis of the various cargoes you have im? ported, a striking feature is the great regularity In the percentage of the important constituents essential for the production of all crops." Prof. F. A. Genth, of Philadelphia, Penn.. says: "The Guano is evidently of animal original, and the minute bones which were dis? covered in the same indicate that it is the result of the decay of bats, mice, <fec The quantity of organic matter which is still present is about 12 per cent., and this yields about 2J per cent, of ammonia. A portion of the nitrogen is present a?.trie acid, of which about 3 per cent, wei^TOrand. Ail the nitrogen present would be equivalent to about 3? per cent, of ammonia. The phosphoric acid in the Guano averaged about 12J per cent., equal to 27.3 per cent, of Bone Phosphate. A considerable quan? tity of the phosphoric acid, however, is present as so-called neutral Phosphate of Lime, which, being slightly soluble in water, renders the Guano as quick in its action as a corresponding quantity of Superphosphates would do. The small per cen tage of potash which was found in analysis adds to its value. From all the ex Eeriments which I have made of the Guana am Guano no doubt can exist that it is a valu I able manure." I Prof. H. C. White, of the Georgia State Ag? ricultural Society, says: "As shown by the analysis, this Guano contains, in good propor? tion, all the elements which are generally con? sidered as of value for plant food, and the forms and combinations in which thev are present are such as to render them available to and assimilable by the plant. I should judge that the proper use of this article for purposes of fertilization would bo attonded with great profit." Prof. Charles U. SJiopard, jr., in a recent analysis of this Guano, says: "This Guano (of animal origin) would appear from its physical and chemical properties to answer every rea? sonable expectation of a commercial manure."
